Darn. His PS numbers were down yesterday, but he didn't have much of a drop last night. Of course, today he's at the vet for a curve and it's probably going to be weird since last night was an "off" night. .6 u was working pretty well until last night; he's been at it for three days. Still running high at pre-shot. How long should I stay at .6 before trying something else?

Re: Cassie 8/30

Someone else will have to give you dose advice but I can tell you the curve at the vet will probably be pretty useless. Typically those #'s are higher due to stress so you can't really rely on them to decide on a dose.

Re: Cassie 8/30

Actually, I knew the vet's curve would be high. I really just want a chance to talk to the vet afterwards.

Re: Cassie 8/30

Cassie looks like Shakes does...
He will do really well for say one 12 hour period, then the 2nd 12 hour period he remains constant (no Dip)
It ttok a long time for that to stop , although it still happens sometimes.
I think it could be her body adjusting to the dips...
Let us know what the vet says today, and it is always better(and cheaper)
if possible to do the curve yourself...

Re: Cassie 8/30

Vet curve was right around 350 all day. His PMPS 228, .6 u.
No ketones or signs if uti. Urine glucose +4, & still losing weight. They wanted me to go to .7 but I was afraid to tonight.

Re: Cassie 8/30

So, the PMPS was at home, right? Looks like (minus vet stress), he was in the 200s all day. Surfing.
I wouldn't increase either. In fact, I'd have to guess that if tested at home, you would have seen a big curve. He started the day 300 points higher than he is right now. .6 did a great deal.

Re: Cassie 8/30

I wouldn't feel comfortable with upping the dose because he is getting alot of action on the .6u from the 500's. I think alot of your high/low's are liver reaction and you need to let that settle down some.

I would want to see a curve done at home before suggesting any changes.

If he's having liver panic issues, how long will that take to iron out? He's been on .6 for four days. Some cycles he gets down around 250, others it stays high and flat all day. It's really running too high for my comfort. Fortunately, there were no signs of ketones. I won't be able to do a curve until the weekend.

The other concern is that he's still losing weight. He's lost about .1 lb since he was at the vet in the midst of his DKA. He's still drinking a lot of water. She wants me to get a scale and check his weight weekly.

I love my boy but he's driving me to distraction. Do I wait and see? Do I up him to .7 for a couple days?

08/30/11 517 0.60 225 0.60 376 VET curve around 350 all day; no ketones, no UTI, still losing weight. Advised upping dose to .7. PMPS +11.5

I know you cant raelly read this too well, but here is my concern....
when she was in the 500's she was given .6 and at +6 she was 193 I believe in 8/29
yesterday it looked like she had a pmps of225 and was given .6 units, at +6 she was 376(could be vet visit)
which usually means too much insulin. now it might take a couple of days to clear that
my gut is kinda telling me to give a couple of more days...but please wait and see if everyone else comments.
.

Lisa,
I want to give you some sort of input, but his SS defies logic ;-)
I don't get the rise last night after that nice PMPS (which I figured was real and his 350's at the vet office were due to vet stress). I understand your need to keep his numbers down with the prior DKA, but his drops scare me, especially on the 28th on just .6. Do you remember if he ate well or not that morning? There's a couple other drops that were huge (PM on the 22nd on .75) but the best ones were the night cycles for 2 days running on .5u.
The way he reacts to even tiny increases.... is there a day soon where you'd be able to be home to watch him? I'd say .7 in the morning, but it would be nice if you could "see" what it does.

Carl
Bright side - I ALWAYS look for one.... a vial of insulin is going to last him forever at these doses.

I'm not going to be able to stay home during the day until the weekend. I'm planning to try a curve then. When I'm here, he appears to be eating well. He went throygh a spell towards the end of last week when he had to be coaxed to eat, but I think the Clavomox may have upset his stomach.

I'm also in the process of switching to evo dry; he's been eating a 50/50 mix w/ high carb since Sun. Maybe it depends on how much of each food he gets? I just don't know what's going on.

I'm going to see his numbers tonight before I decide his dose in the am.

Could you at least get a +4 or maybe a +3 then a +6? Any #'s would be helpful I think. I understand not being able to get a whole lot of #'s during the week, I can't either, I just try to get what I can.

I can get a +3 & +6 tonight.

And of course, tomorrow's my night class so his pm dose will be late. I'll post.both #s at +6.

Around what time will you get the +6? You are on Eastern time, right? Some of the West Coast people might be on late, depending on what time you post, Joanna or Nancy might be on, otherwise it might be tomorrow before anyone sees it.

+3 472

The +6 will be in 3 hours, around 12:30 eastern.

He either has a long, slow drop & quick rise, a quick drop, or little/no drop. I can't really figure a pattern either.
