Things were strange when Casey woke up. First the bald guy was in the kitchen frying bacon and eggs. The bald guy never made kitchen smells that was the female's job. Then there were a bunch of red roses and balloons on the table. Flowers belong outside. What gives?

Then Autumn and Maxwell called all the kitties to a meeting on the bed.

"Today is Valentine's Day. This is an important day to the humans. Its when they tell their loved ones how much they mean to them. So we need to put our heads together to find a way to tell them how special they are to us" began Maxwell from his perch on the dresser

"Oh I could purr extra loud and give really big head butts today " said Bert

"And I can bring her my pink jingle ball" piped in Mariposa

All the kitties were throwing out ideas except Casey who just sat quietly looking sad. Autumn seeing this moved over to groom his head while purring in his ear. "Why so sad? This is suppose to be a happy day"

"I don't have a family to tell them I love them ...Oh sure I love these beans and they've been really nice to me. But I'm not with my mom and brother anymore."

"Oh honey, you have a family. Only Bert was one of their life long fur child all the rest of us are adopted from other beans that didn't want us anymore. And your other family didn't even give you a proper name. They just called you by initials. K.C. Haven't you noticed mom doesn't call you that anymore?"

"Well yeah but she calls all of us sweet funny names that aren't our names."

"True because she loves us she does call us silly names. But remember yesterday she was filling out papers and took you to the vetty bean to be "chipped" See we all got those chips when we became family its so if we ever get lost mom and dad can find us again. Now that's special to have a bean that will never stop looking for you and takes all the steps to help us get home again if we get lost. "

"I saw the papers but they werent for me. The name was Cassavona. Not K.C. or even Casey"

"Oh silly boy. Maxwell was formerly just Max, I was originally Lulu, and you my dear ARE Cassavona...Those papers were Adoption forms!! Mom and Dad had to sign them to tell the shelter you were never going back to a cage and will never live alone in a basement again.."

SO I'M CASSAVONA!!

Yes you're now officially Kitty Cassavona Dickerson.

OH CATSANOVA! Yep, you're HOME FUREVER! 'Course we all knew it already...we just didn't know we get to call you by your REAL name!!!

...psst...don't tell KT that initials aren't a 'name'...he'll feel really bad. His KT is because the silly beans that got him out of that train already started calling him 'Katy'...Katy's a GIRLS name! He is a BIG BOY so he became 'Mister KT' which stands for "Missouri/Kansas/Texas" (aka 'Katy Line') Railroad.... :-D

HUGS MEL AND JON and the rest of the Furgang!

This is beautiful!

If anyone would have walked into my office while I was reading this at work today, I would have probably had to come up with a story about dust in my eyes to explain why I was teary eyed. :-D

Mel,you write so touchingly, and with such poignancy, you have missed your vocation in life, you would make a wonderful journalist, how about writing your autobiography? I'm sure it would be a best seller, you are a very talented lady.

Thanks Diane

I've been playing with the idea of writing a series of children's books using my cats as characters on topics like adoption, blended families and special needs etc.

I use to write many many years ago when my human kids were little. Mostly just bedtime stories for my own children but did have a friend that published a couple of them in a self published book as a fund raiser for the shelter where she worked.

In the UK last year there was a autobiography that had the country in raptures,I don't know if it hit the US!it was called
A Street Cat Named Bob.It was the true story of a heroin addict in his 30s homeless and living on the streets,he came across this stray ginger cat and they became inseparable, their bond healing the scars of each others troubled past.I didn't read the book,I was in a dark place with Bailey being diagnosed at that time, and would have found it too emotional, but everybody was talking about it,and Bob and his bean were on the TV many times,it was such an inspiring story.
I could see your story of rescuing animals being very commercial, feel good animal stories seem to touch the heart of the British nation, forget kids books, write your own story, think of how many kitties lives you could save and enhance with the proceeds of a best seller!!!

You should do it! I've also been toying with the idea of writing a kid's book for diabetic kids about Michelangelo since he was so young when he was diagnosed and tell his story about testing blood and giving insulin just like diabetic kids have to do. I've done a lot of writing and editing in a past life; now I just write technical documentation. I would love to read some more of your stories!
