Carrier Recommendations

I have to take Little Bit to the vet next week and would like some carrier recommendations. The carrier we have is large, bulky and hard. Most of all, I want something safe and secure! Interested to see which carriers y’all like best.

I use the Sherpa carrier. It's soft, light weight and I use the shoulder strap to take Ruby to her vet who is a 15 minute walk from my house.

The Sherpa bags have mesh on three sides so he can still see you while riding in the car. I'm never sure how cats feel about being able to see everything around them--if it makes them feel better being able to see you or if all of the stimulation just stresses them out more.

That’s a good point. I know when cats are TNRed they cover the tops of the cages.

I have a couple of Shera's and love them. I also have one large hard carrier which I use for my my big boy Snuffles. Like the Sherpa's, it is also top loading in addition to standard side loading.

I prefer hard carriers because they’re the safest for the cat in the car in case of an accident. I use these - I have 3 of them, one for each cat, and I love it because there’s a top door and front door, which makes it easier to get the cat in. I put them in the back seat and thread the seatbelt through the handle and around the carrier to secure it. They’re large enough to keep the cat comfortable, but not so large that it’s difficult to carry. Hope this helps.

Thank you, Ana & Larry! I ordered one of each to see how he responds to them. I do agree, the hard carrier eases my mind having him in the car with me. It’s a short drive to the vet’s office, but better safe than sorry.

I'll also note that some very determined cats can try to scratch their way out of soft carriers....

Thanks, y’all! I went with the one @Ana & Frosty (GA) suggested. It fit in my backseat and I strapped it in with the seatbelt.

You can even get Kevlar carriers now but beware, the straps are the first thing to fail. Still a lot better than the dog in the back of a pickup truck, what are people thinking of?
