Hi there! Just wondering what kind of treats can I give my newly diagnosed diabetic cat? I know theres a whole list for food and thought someoneo on this board would treat suggestions.

Thank you! Mimi

I buy the freeze dried cat treats at Petsmart. 0 carbs. Judah and Bobbie love the shrimp so much that I have had to move them off the shelf where the cats treats are because Bobbie climbed up there and chewed through the foil pouch and ate them all. I found her in the kitchen with the chewed up pouch and shrimp crumbs... caught Judah climbing up after it, it is now safely tucked away from them. They also like the freeze dried chicken, but won't climb for it likt they will for the stinky shrimp.

At my Petsmart it is on the bottom shelf of the treat section- you have to look for it.

They have the freeze dried treats at Walmart too....at least here in the Canadian ones they do. I did notice that if you buy them in the dog treats aisle, you get a huge package for cheaper...same stuff!

I stock up on London Broil I think it is, when it goes on sale (usually around Memorial Day and Fourth of July) for $1.99 a pound. I used to barbeque it (until my condo association outlawed barbeques) and now I broil them, without any seasoning or sauce. I then cut it up into thin slices and freeze a handful of the slices in baggies. I thaw out a baggie every once in a while, and give my kitties broken off pieces of the steak slices as treats.
My cat's favorite is shrimp. I buy the 2 1/2 pound bag of frozen large shrimp. When my cat has been exceptionally good  I'll take out a 4 or 5 shrimp and thaw them in a bowl of water. Each shrimp makes about 3 or 4 super loved treats.
I also, have all the freeze dried treats (buy in bulk or by the case, if you want to save $).
Hope that helps.

At first, when a vet told me that J.D. could never have a treat again, I was devistated. And, I guess somewhat horrified for him. Now, I know better, and he gets treats all the time. He just had some of the ham from my plate, and the day before yesterday, he got some of the lobster tail my DBF brought home. There are lots of treats for a diabetic, including all the extra skritches and lovings they get :-D
