? Cap barely eating now; reduce dose?

I assume it's safe to lower Cap's dose to 1.75 for a while?

His appetite has gone away, and I'm having trouble getting him to eat enough for his shots. He sniffs, eats a tablespoon or two, eats a few pieces of Dr. Elsey's kibble, then leaves. The last time this happened, I reduced his dose, and his appetite came back. I've tried everything to tempt him. He is refusing all his usual favorites and only eating a couple of bites mid-cycle.* I'm worried that his usual dose on a minimal amount of food is taking away his appetite even more.

Assuming I can get him to eat enough in the morning for his shot, should I do a curve tomorrow or wait to see if his appetite improves first so that he's eating normally again and stabilizing his blood sugar better?

* At night, I manage to get him to eat more at 3+ but the same can't be said of in the daytime.
** I am leaving out Dr.E's dry kibble some, but he doesn't seem to be eating a ton of it, so that can't be why he's not hungry.

He is! But it also caused his blood sugar to spike to over 400 today, so I'm giving him 2 units again and hoping it goes back down. I'm going to take away his dry food again and see if I can get him hungry enough to want to eat at insulin times.

Also crossing my fingers and praying.

I'm sorry you lost one of your kitties recently. That's always hard. :(
 
He is still pretty close to 400. How long does it take after a couple of lower doses to get back into midrange? Should I do a curve on Saturday or wait a few more days? He's hungry now, but... that's cuz he's "high."

Bought some baby food (nothing but meat + broth) to tempt him with in case he snubs food again.

I may have to find a different vet as well. Talked to mine a few days ago, and she was annoyed that I was home testing / said blood sugar levels aren't important and they prefer fructosamine checks every four months to check "long-term levels" (I bet they do, at $110 each). She wanted to see him before renewing his insulin, but I argued her out of it. I have to drive 45 minutes one way to see her, and it's an ordeal for both of us (he gets carsick and poops from anxiety, then it takes him 2 days to recover)-- and she obviously doesn't keep notes, or she would KNOW the amount of stress it causes him.

Spoke to another vet's office today and set up a phone consult for next week. It encourages me that the girl in the office was understanding about not wanting to bring him in cold -- she said cats aren't dogs and most don't like to travel.

Is there anything in particular I should ask this new vet about? Are there any good questions that reveal competent vets when it comes to treating diabetic cats?
