When looking at Mali's results the last few days, it's very frustrating that it was looking like dropping back to .75 dose was going to be the right dose then without any obvious reason (same FF classic food no extra carbs from anything) and no bump in dose to induce a rebound. I realize she has the pancreatits thing still going on, but I just don't know if that alone could cause this.

On another matter, I recently bought new syringes from Sam's Club and I was told their house brand (ReliOn) is now the Easy Touch. It says film coated for maximum comfort. When you inject into the vial and turn over, if you don't have your thumb on the plunger, it will start filling without you making the draw. I guess this is ok, but kinda strange.

Yes strange results. Any possibility of fur shots?

Larry, I considered that and although I've shot enough to know better, but I guess it doesn't mean I can't do it. Another factor in the mix is the 5/25 AMPS shot was the first one using this new syringe that I referred to and the following high number, but after drawing over the .75, I shot it out down to .75 and shot it....dunno. Maybe somebody else will weigh in.

Occasionally Mali gets green numbers. These green numbers can be pretty low ie 31!. Green numbers can trigger a bounce up to black.

You arent testing that much during the day or night. So its likely you missed a green the morning of the 25th or overnight on the 25th.

However she is coming back down now. I would get a test at + 4 or +5 if you can.

Also in future when your PMPS is yellow you might want to get a before bed test ie +2 or +3 to see if she is dropping and set the alarm if she is.

If you have an old syringe compare it with one of the new ones. Sometimes the zero marks will be misaligned and thus maybe you are not really giving the same amount of insulin as before

Just tested at +8 and got 85..sheesh! I will test again at +9 to see if +8 was nadir...if you look back at 5/25 +8 was the nadir. If I understand Levemir correctly, nadir is usually +8-+10. I will test tonight if she throws yellow at PMPS.

I do have a couple of old ones left and I will compare, but looks like she got it all at AMPS today

I cant speak for levemir, but with Lantus the nadir is supposed to be at +6. But it varies immensely by cat and by day.. so never assume!

+9 would be good. maybe even 8.5. With Alphatrak 85 is seriously close to a dose decrease.. 80 means she gets a decrease!!

129?! Ok well its good she is going up. You will probably see a big pink or black PMPS. Now if she was 85 at +8 she may have been lower earlier.. If it was my cat I might be trying another decrease to 0.5IU... that is of course if she doesnt get ketones.. are you testing for those?

Wendy,
Was happy to get 222 at PMPS considering PMPS yesterday I will test again at +3 tonight to see where she is. No have not been testing for ketones. Just got the ketostiks in and picked up some aquarium gravel and have not been able to catch her in the 30 minute window afterwards...still going to try. She bails if you come in when she is in the box so sneaking up in the stream is out.

A +3 would be great. If she is still dropping then, I would be inclined to get another test too, like +6 depending on how low she is.. Like if she is green at +3 I would be testing hourly till she goes back up. If she is blue I might wait two hours and so on.

All is well I think. 244 at +3...thanks for the input!

I guess I'm officially another crazy cat daddy now...up at 2:30am to stick a something in my cat's ear to draw blood :dizcat
I would have thought +8 would be lower, but I guess that's not too bad..will see what AMPS brings.

Lol!

It's great data.. Maybe mali went lower prior to that +8? Cats tend to go lower during the night since they don't eat as much then. Maybe tonite try a +7?

Wendy

Hey! I think Mali and my Wink could be long lost cousins. They look so similar.

Welcome to one of our newest cat daddies. It seems to be a lot more cat mommas here than papas.

Levimir has a later nadir usually, so a +9 or a +10 may show a lower number than a +8.

Thanks, I never thought of myself as a cat daddy until the wee hours of +8 this morning ~O)

Right after I posted Mali's avitar I thought the same thing! They do look a lot alike all dressed up in their tuxedos.

I think I will tinker same blood drop comparisons of the two meters today and see how that works out and will post results.

Deb, I think you and Wendy are trying to get me in to zombie land with the +8 +9 +10 checks @-) , but whatever is takes to get this little pill regulated is ok with me.

Sorry RG, but both Wendy and I know the importance of those tests, especially over night sometimes.

You don' t have to get all those tests in one day. Spreading them out over a couple of days would work fine. We don't want to make you get up every hour on the hour to test. Not unless there is a hypo event going on. In that case, there will be several someones staying up with you to walk you through the process and guide you.

Have you printed out a copy of the hypo instructions and have a hypo tool kit ready? Kind of like the Boy Scouts, be prepared is a good motto here too. Hypo Instructions: hypo instructions Maybe I'm just being a little paranoid, but we had at least 3 kitties with hypos/near hypos this weekend and would rather have you prepared than not.

We are trying to find the nadir or low point in the cycle. Because ECID (every cat is different) we can't tell you to test at +8 and that will definitely be the low for your cat. It takes some detective work.

I know you are looking out for Mali and I truly appreciate that :!: I'm relatively pleased with the results of the last day or so and hope to keep that trend going. My BW mistakenly gave her 1/2 can of some of her old FF Ocean Whitefish and Tuna in Gravy this morning after AMPS, but even though it is gravy, carbs come in at 3.4% according to Purina. She also gave her some chicken organs that I cooked for her so I don't think the FF gravy should have any adverse effect on her numbers. .

Yes, I do have my hypo kit as you can see in Mali's SS I have used it twice already and that was due to my ignorance in dosing and nothing else.
Thanks for what you do.
