Hi. Mia has been on insulin for four months now. From the beginning, she was very prone to bouncing, so I have been very patient and gradual in her dosing increases, my goal being to keep a curve even if the numbers were higher and to slowly let her system adjust and have the number come down over time. Well, that is a great goal, but it is not working. We have not seen a green in over a month, and we got to a point where she did not go below 250 for over a week - not good. My other baby, Willow, was in an e-collar for over a week, and Mia was very freaked out by that, so I had hoped that had a lot to do with the higher numbers, but that is behind us and still the numbers continue.
I had her up to 2.75 and started thinking maybe, even though the increase had been super gradual, the dose had gotten too high. So, I dropped to 2.5 and got our first blue in over a week during that cycle. I have dropped her back to 1.75 since that dose did pretty good for us at two different periods in the past. We are just in the second cycle with that dose, but it is crazy that the impact is pretty much on par with what we saw at higher doses.
I would love to get feedback from some experienced people. This is just the most frustrating thing, and I worry about her constantly.
For several days now, I can see in her eyes that she does not feel great. She is still not drinking (gets moisture from food) or peeing any more than she has been. A couple of days ago, her poop was really stinky but still looked normal. Yesterday, she had more stinky poop, but it was much softer, I could even see some undigested food in it. For the last three meals she has acted like she wanted to eat but turned her nose up at her food. She did eat shredded chicken each time, and I offered her Sheba this morning, and she ate that. So, I do not think it is nausea. I am thinking that I should call the vet and see about getting her in to rule out any other health issues that could be keeping her numbers high. I would really appreciate any advice. Thank you!
