Canada Vegas ringworm

I am glad to say Vegas has been declared negative for ringworm at his last test.

He was having urinary tract problems and was tested for that - he has/hopefully had inflamation - he has been taking his tinned food floating in lots of water. He has been given Glucoasmine 2ml a day for his arthritis - he is 14 now.

He is not using his litter box - I have had to put him in the bathroom with his bed and box and only let him out when he has used it. This is a big problem. He was OK for quite a while - this problem started in 2008 when he went to the vet and was diagnosed with allergies causing crusty areas around his neck. After that visit he started urinating on the carpet - he finally was OK with using his litter box - but has started again after having the urine testing at the vet. Obviously this upset him and was very painful causing bleeding the day after the testing at home. The bleeding has now stopped of course, but he is still traumatized by this. I am hoping to get him back to proper usage of the litter box. I have achieved some success.

It is a difficult problem, especially at this age and I'll just have to persevere.

Any ideas about this from anyone with the same problem?

Also he still has this crusty effect around his neck which was there when they diagnosed the ringworm. I was wondering if any others have allergy cats and any ideas on this?

Thanks to those who wrote before on the ringworm problem.

Hi Alexanne,

Is there a chance you could take a picture of Vegas' neck the way it looks? Does he pick at his neck, or lick at it?

Are you putting any meds or lotions on that area now?

When you keep him in the bathroom, does he use the litter box? What kind of litter are you using, the conventional clay, or the scoopable type? Once you get something he will use, it would be best to always stick to the same type/brand.

I am most concerned about the chance that Vegas has Interstitial Cystitis? I sent a link to you on that on another post, I believe. My Proto had that and I never had a problem with him using the litter box, but he was going in and out of it about 40 to 50 times a day and I had him to the vet's quite abit, and he was on different meds, but eventually, he blocked last August, 2009, and I had to have him put down. He was only 5 years old, and I still feel so bad about that.

I hope Vegas will be less stressed, and since you only have one other cat, it sure doesn't seem like he would be stressed over his environment.

Take care and I hope Vegas will soon be peeing regularly and in his box. The less you have to take him to the vet's the better, unless he really needs to go for medical reasons.
