I was using President's Choice extra meaty pate's for low carb's as per this chart.

Was feeding those pate's sometimes and Fancy Feast pate's the rest and both seemed to act the same generally. Have been using the Fancy Feast mostly the past month and gave meals at PMPS and +2 tonight and last night and the PC extra meaty turkey and giblet's dinner pate seemed to spike the BG similar to a Fancy Feast gravy lovers, maybe more.

Then again it could just be a bounce both nights but even then it seems a bit extreme for a bounce.

Just wondering if anyone in Canada was using the PC pate's and noticed a difference at all lately.

That looks more like a food spike than a bounce. BB cleared the higher numbers at +3 by +5 which would have been very unusual for a bounce. I don't use the PC pates much since I feed hone-made, but I have used them occasionally if one of my kitties is fussy about eating and have not noticed any big difference in the glucose readings. I don't think I have used the extra meaty though, just the regular pate.

I don't know if you have seen THIS food list put together by one of our Canadian members but she has a caution listed for the med and large cans of the PC Turkey & Giblet foods questioning if the carb levels are the same or higher than in the small cans. If you are using the larger cans, perhaps her suspicions are correct.

Yeah that's the same chart I linked to in post above, don't remember reading that caution but I guess its there. It was the 156g (5.5oz) can.

I still haven't completely ruled out bounce as the cause. But the BG rise (Nov30 PM) from +2 to +3 seemed odd to rise that fast in that instance. Although the BG from +11 in AM to +2 in PM didn't seem out of the ordinary, and the Turkey & Giblets was first given at the PM shot.
Next day(Dec1) the BG change after it was given at +9 in AM doesn't seem out of the ordinary, but the BG change to +2 after t T&G given at PMPS seemed a bit quick and high for that instance. And as noted by Tuxedo Mom it would be strange to clear a bounce within 3 hours after.

Would it be strange for first half of can once opened to act like low carb and then a few hours later to suddenly be high carb for the second half of that same can. Maybe its just usual bounce effect, but that +3 on nov 30 is awfully quick to rise in that situation to not be High Carb food given.

For now I guess I'll just consider those cans might be high carb.

I don't know about PC but I do use FF and I just took Shaak off of FF classics because of BG spikes and not wanting to eat the FF. There are several other cats on the board experiencing this as well. I don't know if FF is different in Canada from the US though.

Cathie, It's hard to tell if the FF formulations are identical for the US and Canada because our labels do not list all the additional supplementations separately, It simply says minerals and vitamins. The main ingredients (protein sources) are the same though. I've been feeding FF Turkey and Giblets for years and haven't noticed any specific problem with my civvies although my geriatric guy has been eating less of it and demanding other options more recently. This may however just be an age thing with him as my other civvie still gobbles it up as usual. My sugar unfortunately won't eat canned food at all so no way to check for food spikes from it. :(

Well I don't think I've noticed any food spikes that could be blamed on the FF. I use mostly beef, chicken, liver&chicken flavours. However in the past I've wondered about the PC extra meaty's though. I even intentionally went to all FF on Oct 28 until I tried again on Nov 30. Looking back through my sheet I can definitely see some spikes caused by the PC extra meaty Turkey&Giblets from the medium can in addition to the observances a few days ago.

I'd have to say its equivalent to at least a FF gravy grilled or maybe even FF gravy lovers,

The FF and PC are the only brands I've had success with building good poop from my cats. One meal of the Sobey's brand Compliments, is at best soft poop if not almost diarrhea. Friskies they don't seem too like much.
