Can you measure human BG with cat monitor?

Last question, I promise. :)

Does anyone know whether you can use a cat-calibrated glucose meter and strips to measure your own (human) blood sugar? Is there some kind of conversion factor or table that anyone knows about?

Just curious... I am not diabetic but am always afraid of coming down with it. My blood sugar in the past has been on the high end of normal and once slightly into the prediabetic range. My doctor checks it every couple of years, but I would like to do it more often and thought hey... I wonder...

anyone know? Thanks!

Nancy

Honestly I don't know. There's no conversion when using a Human meter on a cat so I would assume that the opposite is also the same.

Are you using a pet meter for your cat? Most people just use a Human meter. They're much less expensive and supplies are readily available in any pharmacy. Some people do use a pet meter and keep a Human meter as back up just in case.

There are differences between human. canine and feline blood that effects how the meter translates the measured value to a BG. The AlphaTrac meter reflects these differences by using a different code for different species. If you look at the package insert of the AlphaTrac test strips it give the different acceptable ranges when you use the control solution to test the meter/strip.
108-162 for cats
123-185 for dogs
other ranges for other species.

Thank you, everyone, for the replies. We already have the AlphaTrak, for cats, and plenty of test strips, so I don't want to buy a human meter at this point. I was just hoping maybe there was some conversion factor you could use... but obviously not. (I searched around the Web too, and couldn't find anything.)

Well, I need to just lose weight and exercise better anyway... seeing the poor kitty get shots all the time SHOULD motivate a person to do everything to avoid this disease, but it's so easy to fall off the wagon. :(
