Trialing no insulin for now. What do you think of Eddie's numbers? Should we keep on this road or does he need some wee doses or insulin? Will be working the next 4 days so no earlier in the day glucose checks.

Eddie is sting low carb wet food for the most part. Gets the occasional crunchy form his little brother's dish and I have been offering buts of leftover meat on occasion. Overall he is back to his annoying self. Please tell me also if you have any ideas of how to stop the 6:00 wake up calls. (its earlier in the summer) He wakes the entire family with his incessant meowing and continues even after I get up and feed him. When he was free fed, he would still wake me up even if there was food in the dish.

The numbers look pretty good, but you need to watch he does not get those dry crunches and easy on the scraps you give him as you don't want to slip back into the wrong kind of foods.

I think if you got an auto feeder, you could set the timer to have one turn at 4 or 5am to give him food and to hope you are allowed to sleep a bit longer.

Hi, Fast Eddie & His Human :-D

Boy, so many of us would love numbers like those for our kitties. I do agree with Gayle that you've got to be careful about letting Eddie's diet slip back into higher carb stuff. Stick with the low carb canned food for your furguy to keep his numbers going down.

"When he was free fed, he would still wake me up even if there was food in the dish." -- Maybe it's not all about food. Maybe Eddie just wants you up to keep him company? Butters always gets me up early.

I am soooo not a morning person and I haven't slept in since October 2007 when DD was born. Heck I haven't had more than 8 hours consecutive sleep since then too and I really need 9 so I am chronically sleep deprived.

Eddie's numbers continue to creep up in the morning. Might try frozen food left out overnight BUT as Eddie is not the sharpest knife in the drawer, I suspect he will still be meowing in the morning, needing someone to point out there is food in his dish.

He meows for food then meows when he is done until someone is up, then he goes to bed...

"He meows for food then meows when he is done until someone is up, then he goes to bed..." -- So cute! Eddie sounds like such a cool cat. Easy for me to say, I know, since I'm a morning person. :-D

Its not cute, its old! His little brother, Oliver will happily get up, eat, and go back to sleep stretched out next to me. Much cuter in my books. Oliver also has some other interesting personality traits, likes to push things off high surfaces. Has us well trained not to leave cups near counter edges. As an adolescent he climbed the back of my louvered close doors. I have photos of him standing on top of the door. Did this when I was sleeping after a night shift.

Lately Oliver takes a piece out of Eddie any chance he gets.... this is what happens when you stop free feeding.

Dawn Phenomenon

Eddie's early morning feedings may be hormonally related to needing to break his fast.

Last night I put down some frozen wet food for Eddie before I went to bed. Eddie had eaten 1 hour ealier. He checked it out then gave me the WTF look. Priceless. I went to bed and then Eddie kelpt me awake licking the foodsickle and knocking his bowl against the wall while he licked. Woke me up at 5 or 6 meowing, not sure what time it was. Bowl was empty. Not sure which cat ate the food. I gave him a wee bit of dry food as I couldn't see straight, maybe a tbsp and I though it was 5am. At 6:45 his sugar was 9.1 and he had breakfast. Will check in on him around lunch time if I can.
