Hello - Niki is fighting everything, including testing and shots.

I have read on several threads here that we should use Neosporin ointment to help heal his ears. We just have triple antibiotic ointment (the generic of Neosporin). Can we use that instead? People have cleaned out all the first aid supplies here. We have used it on our dogs but I wasn’t sure about using it on Niki.

thank you!

Thank you! We have the ointment but I would also like to know the answer to Deb’s question in case that issue arises.

Thanks

It's why I asked the question.
I know the recommendation is for the ointment, but with shortages possible then I'd like the "Official" reasoning behind the "ointment only" recommendation.

Or is this simply one of those "things" that have been passed along on the message board without any real reasoning or justification behind the recommendation?

Like an "internet myth."

No it's not a myth...if you were to put a drop of water (or anything else "wet") onto the fur and then try to get a drop of blood, it's a lot easier for the blood to just "mix in" with the other type of fluid. By using something other than an oil based product, the surface tension is lessoned so the 2 "fluids" are a lot easier to mix together.

And yes, petroleum jelly works fine too since it's "oily"
