Can someone check my SS and help me understand

Happy New Years from me and the couch tiger..

By now I have numbers on this SS thing.. Probably not nearly enough but I work a lot.
I am curious as to other's opinions on how it is looking. What am I seeing? Etc.. Is there something else I should be doing or not doing?
I would greatly appreciate some input.

Are you giving insulin?

There are no numbers in the U column to indicate if you're shooting or not and how much

If you haven't given insulin, put N.S. (no shot) in the U column so we know
 
I don't use ProZinc so I'm not a good one to give advice on it ....you might want to post over in the ProZinc forum so you get experienced eyes taking a look

He's actually looking mighty good for a cat that's not getting any insulin though!! :):):)

He's staying in mostly normal numbers so that's great!!
 
Since January 3, he looks like he has been in normal ranges. Our general range is 40-120 off insulin for 2 weeks to be in remission. So I'd keep testing and make sure he stays in good ranges for 11 more days. Interesting that he went up at night some cycles. Any idea why? Less food/more food/ less excercise?

Then, testing daily intermittently and no dry high carb ever again. Once a diabetic, always a diabetic. Many kitties here drop out of remission because their beans give them dry crunchies "just for a snack".

I think his numbers were high AMPS due to the lack of eating. I think that because it seems now when I leave him the freeze dried meat when I go to bed, he's been lower in the am. Also he could have gotten into things but I am not sure.
His numbers are better an hour or two after being fed. I will buy a timed feeder I read about here on the boards and try it out for night time.


If I would have known I may have prevented this by not feeding him kibble, I would have never ever fed it to him in the first place. Sadly it took something crappy (pancreatitis) to learn proper pet diet. He always ate the expensive food too no grain etc.. Now I understand it. This is his forever diet. I want him with me for many more years!!

It sounds like Georgie may have impaired fasting blood glucose levels. Saoirse has had similar problems. My hypothesis is that there is a problem related to basal insulin secretion between meals not being sufficient to process glucose released by the liver between meals. In addition to basal insulin secretion, the pancreas produces pulses of insulin in response to inbound food. You are probably seeing the effects of this when Georgie's BG levels drop after meals Indeed, when BG levels frequently drop after meals it is a clear indication that there are functioning beta cells in the pancreas. By feeding small regular meals it is possible to capitalise on this 'pulsing functionality' to keep tamping down blood sugar levels throughout the day and night. I invested in timed feeders to ensure that Saoirse would get small regular meals while I got some sleep. It definitely helped keep her BG in a better range.

For information, Saoirse has some liver issues and she was put on a SAMe and milk thistle supplement last year. There were improvements to her fasting blood glucose levels after introduction of the supplement.

Thank you Mogs. I am trying to get an appointment with a cat only specialist vet. I will be asking about this. It's good to hear that it helps Saoirse. I really believe you are right because today he had flipped his food bowl and when I got home from work I found he didn't really eat much after breakfast (Because it had gone under the stove) and his number was higher. Not super high but higher... In a half hour I will check him again because I know he ate well an hour and a half ago.
 
You can take your wet, low carb food; add a little more water and put it in an ice cube tray. That way before you go to bed, you can leave 2-3 frozen food pucks and Georgie can eat it as it thaws.
 
He ate, I tested after 2 hours and a really nice score again.... Mogs I think it could be eating...
