Can Lantus cause nausea?

Tonight was the beginning of my third day (6th cycle) of giving Casey insulin. She threw-up a little last night about +6, and a bit larger amount tonight between +1 & +2.

Would it be possible that her meds are making her sick?

I don't believe that I've seen a cat that has become nauseated due to Lantus. It may be that Casey had some acid stomach due to the change in her feeding schedule.

Before Trix was diagnosed, she had nausea issues. She would throw up clear fluid on a daily basis before we started insulin (unlike most diabetics, this was actually her primary symtpom, rather than the excessive thirst/urination that most people see). Slowly, the issues dissipated as her body started to heal.

With Casey, it could definitely be her diet change, or her schedule change, or her body re-adjusting. You may want to try giving her a little Pepcid, to see if that settles things. Before doing that, though, ask for the correct kitty dose (in your subject line)...I can't remember what it is off the top of my head.

She has not been on any other meds. She had FF last night and some Friskies. I tried change her feeding schedule to 1/2 bid per the vets suggestion, but I allowed a full hour, starting on 7/22. Last night I decided to start allowing her to free feed up to +5.5 because it seemed the more strict feeding schedule was causing her to stress out.

Hmmm, maybe she at to much to fast. She used to get sick from over indulging when she was on dry food, but she has not been sick like that since she switched to wet.

The vet prescribed 1.0u, I am giving her 0.75u.

It definitely could be a combination of changing her feeding schedule, and changing her diet in general. Some kitties are pretty sensitive to food changes. I'm thinking it's pretty unlikely that the nausea is being caused by the insulin itself.

I hope Casey is feeling better ASAP!!!
