Can I wait a week?

Hi all,
Louise eats only dry food, is free feeding, and is not yet on insulin. So - I thought I would call my vet tomorrow, and ask if we can wait a week before starting the insulin so that I can change her diet and feeding schedules. My plan is to put them on a schedule, and take up the little bit of dry food pretty quickly. I am taking her in on Friday to check to make sure she has no infections. She doesn't exhibit any odd litter box behavior, and seems to be okay - but you know what actors cats can be.
I feed our other kitties Fancy Feast, but Louise doesn't seem to like it. Thought I would try for a high quality wet food, covered with EVO dry. Right now I am feeding her Innova dry - I thought it was good, and am mortified to think that it may be causing her problems .
My vet likes TD to help my cats teeth - but I could use that as a treat for those two. This plan seemed to make sense to me after reading Dr. Lisa's page. Any thoughts, experience, etc?

The best plan would be to change the diet BEFORE starting insulin. If you can transition Louise to an all wet low carb diet before starting on any insulin you could quite possibly see a big difference in the glucose numbers. There have been some kitties on here who have managed to go into remission after a few weeks just with changing from dry food to all wet low carb. Friskies pates are also low carb and are suitable for diabetic kitties. You can also try using a bit of tuna juice on the wet to encourage her to eat it.

Once you have her changed to a proper diet then if she does still need insulin the dosage could be much different than if you started her while she was on dry food.

Be sure to monitor urine for ketones. (For info - Trace ketones: call vet for advice. Higher than trace: get kitty to a vet immediately.)
