I'm trying to find a way to save costs and found an article online that i can use Freestyle Lite strips in the Alphatrak 2 but want to make sure they will work similar? They look identical but i know that doesn't mean they are. I'm in Canada so strips are very expensive so just trying to save abit of money where ever i can. i"ve found ways to save on Insulin, the syringes ( a small amt.) and the Lancets, which is good but the strips and meter is the most but i wanted to use the right one and not a human one. i also need to find a better food than Friskies but most are close to $3 a can in Canada. Any ideas?

I do know that some people use them but we do not recommend using any test strips that are not meant to go with the alphatrak meter. There is no guarantees they will be accurate.

Is there a reason why you won’t use a human meter? That is what our dosing methods are based on and they are just as good as the pet meters and a lot cheaper

The problem with using the Freestyle Lite strips is what code you have to set in the AlphaTrak. If you do not set the appropriate code the accuracy of theBG number will not be that good.

okay, thanks for the replies. My vet wants me to use a pet meter and i don't want to have two meters right now due to the cost. Meters' aren't free in canada unless they have a deal at a pharmacy and not sure which one to get that is affordable here.
