My foster diabetic isnt eating well today. I'm using a family members spare stuff to check his blood (btw the device and such are brand new so theres no sharing) but i think the lancets are not for the lancet device we have, it doesnt fit. device is one touch delica and lancets are one touch ultra soft. I am wondering if there's another way to draw blood?

You can still hold the lancet in your fingers and free hand poke. Please remove the 911, since that is reserved for hypoglycaemic events and other emergencies.

Can you please explain how to? I am new to this, had to youtube this but only to realize lancets dont fit.

I'm just free handing it most of the time. Check to see what gauge your lancets are. Sometimes the human lancets/devices come with tiny little 31 or 33g lancets. I've had a lot of success with the largest lancet I can find which is 26g. (The lower the number, the larger the needle)

I'm sure someone on here can provide the visual with the "sweet spot" to poke. My Mocha has long black hair so it's fairly hard to see, but I go about 1-2mm from the edge of the ear. You'll be able to feel the lancet go in when you free hand. Always put a cotton ball or something on the other side of the ear because you will probably poke all the way through at least once. We've all done it. You just don't want your finger to be on the receiving end of the lancet.

I also use magnifying glasses with a light so I can see what I'm doing.

The box doesnt say the size

Looks like the Ultra Thin are probably 33 gauge which are too thin for new ears. You really need something in the 25-28 gauge range. These Freestyle lancets were my favorite (but if you want to continue to use the lancet device, you need to have lancets that will work in it)

The edges of the ear don't have a lot of pain receptors but it can take a little time for cats to get used to having you fool with their ears at all. It's not so much pain that they're complaining about as it's just that you're messing with their ears, parts of which are very sensitive. The Lord knew what He was doing when He made the cat. Have you ever seen the ears on an un-neutered tomcat? They're usually pretty torn up from fighting the other boys to win a date with the neighborhood floosy.
