Latley, when Mouse's numbers go low, and I give high carb food, the effect doesn't show up until hours later. Last night, she was at 42, when I gave her karo syrup on her gums, fancy feast gravy lovers, (20% carb), Evo dry food, (not all at once, half an hour apart), and no effect until next preshot.
It's as if the HC food doesn't kick in until later, and when she bounced, she hit high 300s, and surfed there for awhile. I'm pretty sure it will get lower soon enough, but what concerns me is when she gets another low number, what can I give her to keep her from getting even lower numbers, especially in the night. Karo syrup or honey, or HC food has always had an effect within an hour. Not anymore.

All I can suggest is trying Temptations cat treats. They're very high carb and most cats love them. Many people keep some in their hypo kit for emergency use. I have no explanation for why HC food and sugary syrup doesn't seem to work anymore.

Is it possible that you are not giving a large enough quantity high carb each time to offset the drops? Or maybe change which high carb that you use first, like syrup since it is the highest carb, then try the other high carb options that you mentioned. I wonder if the pancreas just happens to be spurting a lot of insulin at that time also. That would be scary!

I am not sure what you mean about the high carb not working. It got her above 50, which is the goal, it is fine if she surfs in healing green numbers (dark green) for a while. In fact, the goal of high carb is to lift them into the safe zone, but not to rocket them to the moon.

Congrats on the reduction.

The pancreas can be spurting more insulin?
I might be taking her in for a vet visit on Monday - non diabetes related (bald spot on her ear)- should I get blood work done?

I was concerned, since a tablespoon of HC food used to make her climb 100+ in 30 minutes. Now, it's hours. It seemed odd to me, but then, this is commercial food, and they change formulas all the time.
Time to make my own cat food.

I've been thinking wrong. I was just trying to get her numbers up, instead of being glad she was staying green.
It also didn't help that I wasn't quite awake while this was happening!

each situation is different....
it could be that she was really going to go low.... so the hc didn't take her as high this time.....

still hoping for a big picture of your beautiful girl.....
