Cami update 5-14

She is starting to respond to the insulin. Right now she is at .7u (which is probably closer to .67u...), but she is only barely getting into the 100s.

I think I need to start reducing the lactulose again, while upping the miralax. She is really bloated, which I think is from the lact. My other problem is that I think my youngest cat is eating from Cami's dish because she has had diarrhea in the past two days. I never see her doing it - never have seen her eat from that dish, but something is upsetting her system.

Cami greets me every morning when I sit up in bed and says, "get the h*ll up and feed me!" Then she runs to the kitchen hoping I am following her and comes back if I am not. She does this even if there is food in other dishes, or even a little left in her dish. So I think it really has more to do with trying to train me to be at her service 24/7....

Nice that Cami is showing a response to the insulin. Sorry to hear you have two on sub-q fluids right now. Time to get the assembly line in action.

My morning wakeup routine is my civie Monet starts first, caterwauling to be let out of the bedroom and then jumping up on the bed to snuggle close to my face and tucked into my chest.

Then civie Delta gets one of her catnip toys and jumps up on the bed with it to bat it around, over my legs. She tires of that and then walks up the side of my leg to say "Where is my first breffis? Isn't it time for first breffis yet? I mean really, the sun has been up forever (false dawn)."

Finally my SugarHunk TM Wink jumps up on the bed, growls at anyone else there, and does the walk up the side of my leg thing, purring up a storm. "I am so happy to see you mom. I know you are awake and can't wait to get up and serve me my first breffis. Do I need to jump up on top of the clock radio and turn it on to get you up right now?"

And I think all cats do that "Are you coming?" routine. :-D

Mine certainly do! I'm like the Pied Piper with the food walking through the house! :)

Glad to hear Cami is responding. I know it's been a rocky road - I trust things are improving and you're feeling better about them.

I actually feel overwhelmed with both cats. I went from having only one cat that needed meds twice a day who was easy to pill, to one cat needing BG testing, 4 meds 2X/day, 2 meds 1X/day and fluids every other day, and another ct needing 2 meds 2X/day and fluids once a day. Not to mention having to add stuff to Cami's food 3X a day, try and make sure the other cats don't eat her food and she eats all of hers - and poop watch with investigation into frequency and consistency.

Now I am struggling with Cami's BG. She just keeps going up and will hit the 400s very soon if nothing changes. I don't know if I have followed her increasing BGs with increasing doses or vice versa. So this morning I cut her dose way down to see if she has lower numbers by tomorrow am.

Looking at her SS from the beginning, she had a similar pattern (after a first strong response to lev) of increasing numbers and doses until she threw up that plant stem. Then her BG plummeted immediately. If this is something similar (inflammation in her gut somewhere) going on, I don't know what else I can do for her. She is still on pred and her liver values had returned to normal. With the Q fluids her kidney function seems to have also returned to normal - based on water intake and peeing. Exploratory surgery is out of the question for financial and her general poor health.

Beau bit me last night when I put in the needle for SQs and I smacked him to make him let go of my hand. I feel really bad about that, but it speaks to my frustration and anxiety over all this. I am heading out of town on June 11th for 10 days and my sisters have to come from CT and MI to stay here and administer to my cats, but I will still worry about them every day, all day, while I am gone.
