Cami seems so sad

She spends all her time sleeping in the dark hallway leading to the front door now - out of the flow of the rest of us going from room to room. Unless she is eating, then she is in the kitchen. She used to be at least in the doorway of the room I was in, but now she just stays here. She seems so sad.

I speak to her when I walk by and sometimes stop to pat her head, but other than raising her head, she doesn't respond. She is eating ok and she even purrs a little when she gets her testing treats. She just goes right back to her dark hallway. And it's hardwood in the winter and she has no body fat! I would think she would find a comfy place that's warm and soft.

She was 109 this am.

Sheila, is Cami sad because she is missing Jeddie? If so, do you have anything with his smell on it that you could give her for comfort? She does look really sad in the pic.

Awww. (((Cami))). Sheila, does she like to be held? I can't remember if she is on pain meds. Maybe the dose needs to be adjusted? If not pain meds, maybe the prozac?

She may be sad but she's looking healthier.

I wonder if she just wants some territory not owned by anyone else?

I hope she is okay. cat_pet_icon

Carol, if Cami is missing Jeddie, there is a whole other level of existence going on in this neighborhood. She post-dates him by a couple of months. Although, I did ask him to speak to her and tell her I meant well....

Marcy, she is not on pain meds, but maybe should be. Something for arthritis and/or her paws. Dawn Allen mention one (holistic), but I could never find info on dosage. I am still trying to find what might help her with her stiffness. That's another reason why sleeping on the hard, cold floor doesn't make sense - unless the cool helps, like icing a painful joint? I just upped her prozac dose because she was still peeing on my LR rug.

Heather, I put down one of the carrier pads, but she won't tough it. She had been sleeping on the kitchen rug which is on top of one of those fatigue mats. She was actually on the dining room carpet when I got home tonight. And she purred for her treats tonight.

She doesn't like to be held. I try every few days to pick her up and put her on my lap, but she won't stay. The first few weeks I had her, she did get on my lap and purr and she got on the bed and purred when we were in MI. I guess that was from insecurities or she was scared or something.

She should be feeling better because her numbers are way down and that thing isn't in her stomach any more. I do agree that she may want her own space or at least a space that isn't overwhelmingly scented with other cats, but to do that she has to be IN those places.

I don't think she lived with another cat until last April, so she needs feline socialization so she knows being part of the pride is a good thing.

She was 128 tonight. hasn't gotten below 100 today (that I tested). I may need to go back to .2u

Autumn went through a period where she too seemed very sad right around the time her numbers started getting better but hadn't yet put the weight back on. It was almost like she got sad because she felt so much better yet didn't have the strength back yet to do anything with the new health.

She still has days where she seems sad but usually right around changes in air pressure, which right now I have a feeling has to do with pain. Since I know I hurt more when there is a shift from high to low pressure or vise versa. Which might be some of what Cami is going through.

Or perhaps she is just a little home-sick and hasn't quite figured out that this is her new home.

Mel, that makes sense about not having the strength to do anything with her better health. It makes me realize how much better off Beau was at that same point in getting the FD under regulation, Yes, he had lost weight, but not 50% and he had not been rehomed, or declawed, or.... I really think that the homes these "rejected" kitties came from probably didn't suddenly reject them, but that there was a increasing (or had always been there) attitude of intolerance for the kitty even being there, let alone needing attention and care. So sad. I was reading about declawed cats ending up in the shelter because they would not use their LB from pain - over and over again this happens. When is the US going to outlaw this barbaric practice?

She has been slightly more engaged this morning - sleeping on the hallway rug (which is made from FLOR tiles, so not all that cushy). Her BG was 80. She is getting good about taking treats from my fingers without also taking the fingers! Which means she is beginning to understand that everyone gets treats in turn and she will get her share.

Maybe as more time passes and Cami truly believes she's not going to be moved and pushed aside and she gains back some weight, she'll brighten up. She couldn't have a better home and kitty mom! Mel is a fount of experience and wisdom, isn't she?

Yes, I have a nice kitty circle bed that can be plugged in for heat that Sneakers won't touch with a ten foot pole and through the summer it was the cold wooden floor, the cold tile floor that she continued to lay on all day, just switching spots when it got too hot for her.

Love the 80 number!

Sending calming wishes.

I hope that this is just Cami being confused about getting all of the food she needs now and being able to absorb it, as well as dealing with a new environment and having you all (including the other animals) accept her. And worrying about all of this being taken away from her.

Interject "contemplative" for "sad", and that may describe her recent actions.

She looks wonderful, and her numbers are great, but the poor little girl has had so much change in her life in the last month or so, and she needs time to process all of these changes and become comfortable with them.

You're doing a great job with her, Sheila! :thumbup

Well, she threw up tonight. First time in 10 days. She had just pooped, so that concerns me - that pooping causes nausea. Poop was normal. I tested her BG right after and it was 110 (at +8). She was 69 at +6 - might have been lower before, maybe.

Now I'm worried that she has something else in her stomach.

Actually, I gave her Beefeaters freeze dried chicken treats after the +6 test and that was what she threw up. After I gave her and the other their treats, I discovered a treat on the bottom of the container that was still moist! That can't be good. I just got them on Tuesday and opened then Weds. The ones on top were ok (I think). I have to return them to PetSmart and complain about them. Or maybe I should contact the manufacturer directly.

ETA: she was 114 at pmPS

She is still drinking a lot of water. I would think that would have stopped a week ago or so.
