I am in the one-day-at-a-time stage.

Her resp rate is lower, but still on the high side: 42/min (normal for a cat is 16-40). Her BG was 93 this am (yay). I put her on the bed in the morning and she stayed and purred for about 10-15 mins, but her inner eye lid was slightly closed which isn't normal for her. It probably indicates she still has a slight fever (it was 103.2 yesterday).

They handed me a DVD when I left the 2nd vet yesterday and I thought it was the digital xray from the first vet that I had brought with me, but it was the US images. I really can't make heads or tails of them. I was hoping for the xray so I could compare it to the one from last July. I guess I have to ask for that again from the 1st vet.

We are getting 8-10" of snow today. I am not going anywhere if I can help it.

Poor girl I hope she gets to feeling better at least it sounds like she is breathing better today. We had our first thunderstorm of the season last night, so hopefully Spring is on its way finally.

Still keeping prayers coming and have all our fingers, toes, tails and paws crossed for you beautiful black girl.

At least she knows you love her and will take care of her.

And purring means she is comfortable and feels your love :-D

She is, at least, feeling somewhat better today based on her resp rate of 40/min (compared to Beau at 24/min), her appetite and enthusiasm for treats at testing time - and my dinner time :roll: (I had a tuna sandwich and, of course, they all had to have some tuna and tuna water - no salt added).

Her BG has been around 100, so no insulin today. I had to laugh (to myself) yesterday when I told the vet that I gave her insulin because she was 183 yesterday morning and she reacted like I was nuts, "We don't usually give insulin below 250..." I didn't even bother to explain. On the other hand, the specialist did not even question the dose I wrote down "1/10th of a unit", which I would have expected a "why bother" or "that won't do anything" comment on.

The other problem I am having with her is that she is peeing all over the place. She is still drinking a LOT of water. She started going on my bedroom carpeting "where ever" last Friday. Probably when she started feeling poorly. Now I have pee pads down in the area that she goes and she sits on the edge and pees over it or next to it and it runs over. Sigh. Other times she just walks past the area right to the LB and climbs in and pees. I don't know what she is thinking. It's frustrating, but I don't think I can do anything about it. At least it so dilute that you can barely smell it on the paper towel I use to blot up as much as possible before spraying with Simple Solution.

Today seems better symptom-wise. Her BG was 74 this am, so no insulin again - this is after two doses of pred. And her resp rate is 34/min, so much better. I did not hear yesterday on the blood work so I have to call today.

She had been back to staying in the dark hallway all the time since Sunday sometime, but was back on the sofa this morning. I got a great photo of her I will post later. And she got some cheese treats for getting up there.

I'm wondering if her peeing where she shouldn't has something to do with the fluid in her abdomen...if it just puts so much pressure on her bladder that she can't help where she goes, or if she can't tell that pressure from the pressure of a full bladder so doesn't realize she needs to head to the litter box until it is too late?

Glad to here that at least symptoms wise she is improving. And cheese treats always makes the day better. Give her scritches from all of us.

I follow what Mel said- the pressure might not be something she can figure out- do I or don't I?

Maybe ask the vet if something like Lasix would help reduce some of the fluid burden.

I know that tapping the fluid from the abdomen risks extreme electrolyte disturbances; I had a civvie with this and the abdomen just refilled after tapping anyway. I ended up euthanizing her because she couldn't breathe and was suffering. :sad:

I don't think her peeing "all over" is from not knowing when she needs to go or not being able to get to the LB in time. She is peeing about 18" from a LB, or walks right past that one and pees on the mat in front of the another one, or actually pees inside the other one. She has four designated places, 3 LBs and one pee pad covered area that is about 5 square feet.... I think it is more likely that she feels bad and/or has pain and is doing the only thing she can to complain about it.

We can't give lasix yet because we don't know her kidney status and they are enlarged. Plus, she is slightly dehydrated already from the excessive peeing, which I am betting is from hypercalcemia. Her blood calcium levels were slightly elevated in July. That is something that can be idiopathic or from endocrine disease or cancer, namely lymphoma.

She got salmon from my dinner tonight (they all did). Yummy!

On another sad note, I had to tell my aunt that her male cat is failing. He has IBD and we have tried so many things, but he just gets worse. I took him for a steroid shot, it's the only thing that helps at all, and he had watery diarrhea in the car and then vomited over and over again. He has spit up a little, but this was extreme and was 3 hours after he ate, so his stomach should have been less full. My aunt is 85 and was in the hospital and nursing rehab for two months and just got home a week ago. Her cats are just getting back to normal. They will be 16 in June. These are her first cats and she has never had to make *THE* decision so I know it is going to be very, very hard on her.
 
What a pretty girl!!!! She looks fantastic!! And so content, just suxs that she had so much going on with her healthwise.

I hope you dont mind me jumping in here and saying what a pretty kitty! And that I'm praying for ya and your moms kitty too.

Oh, pretty Cami! Too bad she does feel so crappy that she uses the only way she can to let you know about it :cry:

Your poor aunt! Not an easy decision to make and after all of her bad health, too.
