Cali's Thread Continued...

Thank you for the incredible amount of replies in my last thread, and the level of detail provided! This group has been a sanity-saver for sure. (Well, whatever sanity I have left at this point...)

(Not sure how to make the title of the thread hyperlinked, so I hope this works for now.)

Most recent issue recap: Freestyle Libre 3 application is on hold until I can get a used phone that is compatible with the app. What a frustrating experience, but at least I found out before it was applied!

Until then I am still learning to make the blood tests easier on my cat. Picked up Vaseline yesterday and that definitely helps to create a better bead of blood!

Have a day off coming up, and will do the extra BG tests as recommended by everyone in the group. When doing these, what "treat" do you give your cat as a reward that doesn't affect the BG tests? Would a zero carb treat work, like a few flakes of tuna? Or is the treat just cuddles and play time?

Thanks everyone!! ❤

Whatever works for you cat is the best treat. Some cats love being brushed. Mine was very food focussed, so I used freeze dried all meat treats. Purebites is one such brand, so is Orijen. There are actually lots of brands, which is good in case kitty has a food allergy. Neko also got a little cuddle along with the treat. But all I had to do was shake the treat package and get the meter and she'd follow along.

Thanks! Just to confirm, these treats are for days you are testing for the curve? I want to ensure if I give her a treat it won't affect the following blood tests, since they would be so close together.

Cali also gets the snuggles and pets, plus we have a little happy dance when she doesn't have to have a shot. 😄

Those treats can be for anytime. I've seen an extremely small (2?) number of cats that have their BG impacted by treats. All and only meat treats should be fine.

The idea is to give your cat a positive reinforcement/reward (i.e., a treat) any and every time you poke her ear. You want the poking to be associated with some thing she likes. It doesn't matter if the test is successful. Every poke = a treat.

Great, thanks so much!

In good/hopeful news, she hasn't needed any shots since Friday, and her AMPS today was 6.1, lowest it has been since her surgery. Huzzah :)

(Blood testing IS getting easier - the Vaseline tip was a game changer!)
