Cabergoline effects, questions

Hi all, I am hoping to hear about some experiences with cabergoline. I found an old discussion forum but it is from a few years ago. Oscar has a very large pituitary tumour and is in palliative care. We are looking at starting cabergoline mainly with the hope it may help his symptoms and somehow reduce the tumour, rather than a goal of diabetes remission. Oscar has diabetes but it was triggered by steroid use for palliative care, not directly by the tumour. IGF levels were not tested but a CT showed a really big tumour in the pituitary region. We aren't sure how long he has, we are at 3 months and were told he may only have 2-3 months so I think we are at the point now where we want to give anything a go that might help him.

We are at the point where he has quite advanced neurological symptoms of the tumour, and we are also trying to manage the new diabetes diagnosis.

Can anyone tell me how they have gone with cabergoline? What improvements? Has anyone seen improvements related to neurological function rather than diabetes? Better vision, personality, energy, learned behaviours, balance and coordination, less seizures or spasms? What dosage did you do and how do I get my vet this information? Any side effects?

We are in Melbourne Australia.

Thank you

Most people here have used 10 microgram per kilo of cat as the starting dose. Some people start every other day, some every day. Some cats have GI symptoms (gas, diarrhea, vomits) and back off to every other day until the GI symptoms are under control, then go back to every day. The South American study that has tested the largest number of cats on cabergoline did every other day as their standard approach. The much smaller Royal Vet Clinic study used every day.

Although the thread you saw is older, there were lots of stories of improvements, including energy, personality. Not many of the people giving cabergoline are actively posting now.
