Hello -
Quick question for fellow California members - is a prescription needed now for insulin syringes at local pharmacies?
I just returned form Walmart and was told I can only buy 3 bags of 10 insulin syringes (total 30 syringes) without a prescription??? It has been more than 2 years since my last purchase from local pharmacies and I tried doing an internet search but couldn't find any definitive answer. According to this website CA does not require prescription for syringes but not sure how old the data is. There is supposedly a new law that will go into affect in Jan 1, 2015 where they remove the 30 limit. So I'm wondering if anyone from CA knows what the current requirement is?
For those that have been on the board for a while you might remember us from back in 2011-2012. Beau was one of the fortunate ones that went into remission after 1 year of insulin. We enjoyed 2 years and 3 months OTJ and he's now 17 years old! For some unknown reason he fell out of remission in late August of this year so we are back on Lantus. He's definitely responding better this time around and we were able to get him fairly regulated within 2 months. However, it also seems this time around I wasn't able to decrease the dose as anytime I tried to do that he seems to go back up in numbers.
We have always used Relion syringes even though some marking were slightly off but I really like how there are minimal air bubble issues and it's easy to hold and inject. However, there have been times where Beau would yelp and bite me (very gently as a warning) as if it was painful when I stick the needle into him, maybe 1 out of 5 shots. After reading several members recommend the Terumo I bought some and switched over on Thanksgiving night. I had the most difficult time getting rid of the darn air bubble but after reading further that's no longer a problem. The issue I have is the Terumo seems to hold LESS insulin when compared to the Relion at the same dosage mark and it was evident in the spike of his numbers since the switch even with the added dose for buffer. Hence me going to Walmart today trying to get the old Relion syringes.
Anyhoo, hope you all had a very warm and lovely Thanksgiving weekend =)
