Buttercup's blood pressure was 80 today. Should I worry?

Hi,
My hypert diabetic in remission cat got her t4 checked today (results coming in tomorrow) and blood pressure. i worried it would be high and when the tech brought her out she said it was 80. I asked if that was too low and she said no. in past her pressure has been 120-140 or so. this is a big worry to me. what should i do. she seems ok generally right now. but i am thinking about taking her out of town immediately to a specialist (well next week is soonest i could prob do it) because i am still going to vet who trashed my little pumkin out (he died last Saturday. thanks for any input. i am going to write and thank everybody for their help with my loss now in separtate post. thank you.
how urgent is this?
i have a not good feeling about this. this seems too low to me especially in a hyperthyroid cat.
 
gosh sara i don't know... maybe jess, if she's on board, (her soulmate dog just died) can help. she is a vet tech. i'll see if she's on and pm her ok?
 
Just googled what a "normal" blood pressure is in cats, according to what I found "normal" is 110 to 160

Hypotenion is less than 80 to 90 or it is in layman terms low blood pressure. But sounds like it could be a bad thing if her BP is 80. Not sure hopefully someone with more experience can chime in soon. But from what I was reading a low BP can be a sign that the kitty is seriously ill. Again I'm only guessing and going by what limited info I could find on line.

Sorry I can't be more help, never had to deal with it. But from what I was reading last night it didn't sound good, but then again since she was at the vet's at the time if it was really serious I would have thought that they would have mentioned it to you. My only other thought would be if it really concerns you (and probably what I would do if she was my kitty) is call the vet and ask that they call me back when they have time to talk and discuss what it means and what could have caused it.

I tend to drive my vet nuts I'm sure because I don't settle for the its this type of answer. I want the plain english version and all the data I can get. I even have one drawer in the file cabinet that is solely for all the critters vet records. Never do I leave without a full copy of all the data from any of their visits. It has come in handy more than once.

Sasha had one sub-100 reading back when we first started testing her BP about 1.5 years ago. It's been normal since then - she's actually hypertensive now. The T4 result should help shed some light on if a possible low T4 level would be causing this (hypothyroidism can cause kitty to be hypotensive). There are a few other things that may factor in, though. Do you know if this was a single BP reading or if there was an average done? Usually you'll want the vet to do between 3-7 readings and take the average. Also, do you know where this was measured - leg or tail? Did they tell you what size cuff was used? We normally have Sasha's done on the tail with a #3 cuff. It's taken at the base of the tail after the underneath of the base has been shaved. Fur and the wrong cuff size can cause funky readings.

I'd see what the T4 level is and then get the BP re-checked.
 
took her in fri for a recheck and it was 153. going to have to talk to the vet about this next week. don't know what a big fluctuation like that could mean. maybe it is nothing. absolutely don't think i can keep going back to those aholes for more punishment. i'm sorry but i am beyond upset with the care if you can even call it that that i get for my cats here. thanks for all the help.
