So my pre-diabetic/early renal failure cat has improved. Back in November, she had high glucose and borderline high creatinine (I'm sorry, I don't remember the numbers). She was also overweight at 11.2 pounds. We switched her from all-you-can-eat kibble (I know, oops) to canned Friskies and canned Nature's Domain, two cans a day per cat with water added in. She went on a brief hunger strike, but she caved. She lost weight down to 9.6 pounds. Her sugar was fine, creatinine was still borderline high. The vet wanted her on a renal rx diet, but she won't eat it. We compromise with the Friskies/Nature's Domain concoction.
Today, she's back up to 10.6 pounds. Glucose was 309, which the vet said could be attributed to stress (she loses her mind when we put her in the travel carrier). Creatinine was borderline but less than it was before (still in the black but on the far right side of the black). Her potassium and phosphorus were also a bit low. The vet suggested a senior food. Is this all attributable to kidneys? What should we try?
