I've had Poncho on this for almost 3 days now along with cyproheptadine and today his appetite is not very good. Has anyone had this affect the appetite? With both the meds combined I expected him to be very sedated, as he is but would that impact his appetite, esp since the cypro is a stimulant? Could it be also the high pm BG....all combined?

what dose is the cypro? And did he have signs of nausea? kind of lip smacking, sniffs his food but turns away.....
the cypro doesn't always work if the nausea isn't addressed.....

secondly , are you trying new foods? Or will he not eat his usual foods that he used to like?

I do not find that the bupe has any effect.....

Sorry. I didn't give more info. He's also been on ondansetron 2mg and the cypro 2mg daily. He never had signs of nausea that I saw, but when hungry sniffed his food and turned away, but I figured that was due to his URI which went away last week. I've been assist feeding Hills ad (which he hates now) and he does eat a little Fancy Feast Classic or Friskies Pate on his own....he always was a grazing cat and a dry food eater until the diabetes/pancreatitis. I got him back on pain med because I thought his pancreas was still tender and his BG has been swinging wide.

Hi Chris,

I note that Poncho will eat some foods under his own steam. I'd suggest sticking with just the foods he seems to like for the time being (assuming it's safe to do so). I've learned over time that foods that Saoirse's reluctant to eat - even with anti-nausea meds on board - tend to disagree with her and cause her discomfort. I've learned to trust her preferences to tell me what's best to feed her. Monitor Poncho for any lip licking, etc., when you give different foods. That may guide you to foods that agree with Poncho. As you go along, check ingredients in foods that he does or doesn't like. It may throw a light on food ingredients that trigger his symptoms.

Thanks Aine. Poncho's a funny eater. He'll tear into a fresh can of a certain flavor, then next time he'll want something else, and I've had up to 6 newly opened cans within 2 days which he has done a hit and run on. Of course this behavior is recent since switching to wet food from dry, which he ate through out the day instead of 2-3 meal time feedings. I think today maybe the combo of meds has knocked him down a bit and affected his appetite. I'll check the ingredients of what he likes (even tho it's usually temporary) and look for those when shopping.

Bupre. is an opiate and can cause constipation which can affect appetite, and can cause nausea. Is he using the litter box normally?
He's on ondansetron and I give him Miralax daily. He's using the litter box ok. I think I'll hold skip the next dose of bupre until he comes back out of the heavy sedation. He might have a sensitivity to it or the combo of meds. He's laid out, not laid back.
