Hi all, I’m taking my cat in for his first dental and extractions. I am Questioning the safety of this Buprenex injectable? Should I ask not to give it to him, perhaps they can just give it to him sub lingually and I can give it to him the same when we get home? Also I did ask for no Convenia or a metacam. Here is the treatment program, Is there anything that this veterinarian is missing in your opinion? I just want to drop him off fully prepared on what to tell her. He is 17 years old and hyper T. Thank you

My girls had shots of buprenorphine and orobenacoxib. Then, I gave them orally for a short time after. I mentioned on another post that bupe makes Mia skittish, and I found that to be worse with the shot of bupe, but I probably would not have turned it down even if I had known that because my greatest concern was that she not be in any pain.

The injectable is probably given right before/after the dental to handle pain during/right after the procedure.

Then they should send you home with some sub-lingual for the next few days

Ok thank you. I’ll let her give him the bupe shot. Came home from work and my poor old man didn’t touch his food. I found him lying on the bed with a swollen eye. He’s been sneezing as well. I offered him food but he refused so I broke out the baby food. I’ve gotta get calories in him, he’s prone to ketones. The vet was able to move the extractions to Tuesday. Thanks everyone.
