bummed by bg results this a.m. :(

Well, I was hoping Shadow's bg reading would be around 120 or lower but today when I did it at 4:55a.m. it was 148 since a few mornings ago it was 127. I'm transitioning him from Wellness chn and herring to just the wellness grain free chicken but he did grab 2 pieces of my lab's evo grain free herring and salmon dog food last night b4 I could stop him. Could that really effect his reading today?

We are talking little variances (remember that 2 numbers from the same meter are bascially the same even if they are 20% different because of natural meter variance) so anything can make the difference. A bit of different food, a higher carb food, a treat that is a little higher carb, lots of excercise before you take the reading (can lower bg) You can be looking at general trends, not individual numbers so much. Is he tending to hang out above 100 consistently? Does he dip down into the double digits? When does that happen and what might have precipitated it?

Thanks for your reply Sue. The above 120 readings are just the first a.m. reading so far since I started testing at home. I'm going to do some day readings today and see how those numbers are. I'm finally down to 2 pricks for getting blood from his ear. I had to move locations where to do this as he wasn't keen on me doing it by his food bowl. Now he gets catnip and a tiny part of a freeze dried treat after the prick and he's happier. He's still not crazy about me warming up his ear first but he deals with it.
