Midgie, our civvie, is a medium hair tabby. She's a scrawny thing, maybe 5-6 lbs tops. She BARELY tolerates grooming, only likes petting on her terms and absolutely hates to be held. Clipping her nails is a fight, too.
This morning I find she's a bit of a mess on her bum and is in need of a clean up. I don't even know how much poop is back there because she won't let me look at it. I haven't been successful in wrapping her in a towel to try that way.

My question is, is there anything over the counter that I can get that might calm her down enough so I can see the situation back there? I don't want to hurt her and she fights like the dickens when I try, twisting, whining, growling and huffing.(she's never once put her teeth on me).

Google "cat muzzle" and some vets and pet stores sell them. I've got a couple of cats who hate getting their claws clipped but they freeze up with the muzzle on as it covers their eyes and I can quickly clip their claws without any thrashing around or trying to nip at my hands. They come in different sizes and are cheap and easy to use and I bet you'd be able to use one to do an inspection and quick clean up.
