Clavamox for antibiotic (tests showed he was just starting to get a UTI. Vet thought that would do double duty for UTI and after dental) and Meloxicam for pain.

Just wondering if these were good meds. He had 4 teeth extracted and some were infected so I'm really hoping this helps his numbers!

I am not so hot on meds. I think the clavomax is the one that tastes okay to cats and might have some sugar in it. You obviously need to treat the UTI so you will just have to see how much it affects bud and of necessary perhaps slightly adjust the dosage of the prozinc. How long is he on it for?

I believe meloxicam is the generic for metacam. I know many warn against the use of this medication due to the risk of damage to kidneys. It is commonly prescribed after tooth extractions. It's a difficult one as it must be a little painful after
Surgery. Again how long are you meant to use it.

A very quick search bought up this link

He is on the Clavamox for a week I believe. So far I have 2 doses down his throat with no problems. She said she normally prescribes something else after a dental (can't remember the name) but said Clavamox should cover the dental and UTI.

I was reading the handout the vet gave me on the Meloxicam and it specifically says not to use that concentration in dogs or cats under 10 pounds. Bud is 8.5 pounds right now.... So I talked to the vet and she tells me that's why he's got such a tiny dose because the dose took his weight into consideration. She assured me that she sends this home with all cats who have had declaws and tooth extractions and they are just fine. Bud needs it because it's the only anti-inflammatory they can give cats, and his kidney blood work looked beautiful or she wouldn't have prescribed it. I got off the phone thinking I would give him one dose of the Meloxicam tonight, and then use buprenex that my friend was going to give me for the next few nights. But after going to the Metacam website and seeing that you shouldn't give the oral suspension to cats on their own insert with my own eyes, that was it. I called back and they are giving me buprenex. I will pick it up on my way home from work.

Glad I asked and thanks for the help!!
