He is on the Clavamox for a week I believe. So far I have 2 doses down his throat with no problems. She said she normally prescribes something else after a dental (can't remember the name) but said Clavamox should cover the dental and UTI.
I was reading the handout the vet gave me on the Meloxicam and it specifically says not to use that concentration in dogs or cats under 10 pounds. Bud is 8.5 pounds right now.... So I talked to the vet and she tells me that's why he's got such a tiny dose because the dose took his weight into consideration. She assured me that she sends this home with all cats who have had declaws and tooth extractions and they are just fine. Bud needs it because it's the only anti-inflammatory they can give cats, and his kidney blood work looked beautiful or she wouldn't have prescribed it. I got off the phone thinking I would give him one dose of the Meloxicam tonight, and then use buprenex that my friend was going to give me for the next few nights. But after going to the Metacam website and seeing that you shouldn't give the oral suspension to cats on their own insert with my own eyes, that was it. I called back and they are giving me buprenex. I will pick it up on my way home from work.
Glad I asked and thanks for the help!!
