Howie was recently put on Budesonide for probable small cell lymphoma and gabepentin for pancreatitis and arthritis but I have no idea what to do after initial doses that my vet gave so would love to hear what other people are dosing at.
BUDESONIDE
I was instructed to give 1mL every other day for 2 weeks and then as needed. Do I just continue it every other day in perpetuity? How do I know if he doesn’t need it or if it’s not doing anything? Also, I was told his BGs would elevate which it has on the days he gets doses. Do I adjust insulin to compensate for those days he spikes?
GABEPENTIN
Howie has been in transdermal buprenorphine for a few months for pain control of arthritis and pancreatitis. We switched him to liquid gabepentin with instructions to give .5mL every 24 hours for 3 days, then every 12 hrs for 3 days then up to every 8 hrs as needed. I DO NOT need a stoner cat though. I never saw any great changes in his pain levels with the Bupe. My vet told me to keep him on both the buprenorphine and the gabepentin but that seems like way too much pain med. How often do people give gabepentin each day? Should I keep him on both?
