So, I wasn't preventing Bud from eating 2 hrs before testing pre-shot. I will start that tomorrow. I should also be getting U100 syringes and ketone strips tomorrow. That should make it easier if I need to do the 0.5 increments. Should I stay at 1 u ?

Hi, Carole! (Ha, was just noticing that all 3 of us on this thread at this moment have black cats in our avatars ...)
Good job on putting your SS together! :) Now I have some questions:

- Can you tell us what Buddy weighs* at present?
- What would you say his "ideal" weight is, based on his bone structure? (larger-size frame, smallish frame, etc.)
- What is Buddy eating these days? (I know you'd said on your other thread that you planned to transition all 3 kitties to canned, which is great!)
- And how many ounces of food does he eat every 24 hours?
- What's his meal schedule at present? (And does he get snacks or treats, too? If so, what?)
- Does he eat separately from from your other cats?

*Here's a helpful body condition chart

Didn't get the ketone strips or U100 syringes yet. Buddy was 17 lbs in January, and in mid July when he was diagnosed he was 12.5 lbs, and now he's 13.6 lbs. I think he's a large size cat. He eats Friskies pate or Fancy Feast (I have the list of low carb ones) about 5.5 can size a day. Sometimes I give him some EVO dry. Every morning he gets a teaspoon of human Tuna Light in water, because I mix B12 capsule in it. He eats along with my other 2 cats. They all eat the same thing.

Sounds to me like you're doing the right stuff re: amount & type of food Buddy's getting ... Is great that you're feeding all 3 of your cats the same low-carb canned, too! (Yes, definitely withhold all food in that 2-hour window before Buddy's AMPS/PMPS time.)

Buddy's weight history sounds so much like Bat-Bat's! She was 18 lbs in December 2012; when dx'd in August 2013, she had dropped to just a bit above 9 lbs. She'd been eating mostly so-called "healthy" dry kibble & only a little canned (didn't know squat about low-carbs back then). Silly me, I thought the weight loss was due to cutting her dry rations back a bit. (Wrong!) And as she'd had a UTI back in 2009, I perceived all that extra water-drinking & peeing she was doing as a "good" thing. (Wrong!) Had zero knowledge about the symptoms of onset of diabetes! So was totally blown away when we got that diagnosis ... Today, now that she's well-regulated, she holds weight pretty steady at around 11 lbs.

Sue was an enormous help to me in tweaking ProZinc doses for Bat-Bat earlier this year - you're in the best of hands! :) Can't say enough good things about her wisdom. (Got me through some scary moments!)

Will be rooting for you and Buddy, Carole (& will be taking peeks at his SS). Will look forward to your posts on how he progresses! :bighug: - Robin

Hi Carole - I was just checking on Buddy. His pre-shot numbers seem really high. Have you tested for ketones? Did you get the U100 syringes? There is not too much data yet so was wondering how everything is going? Sorry, I can't remember but what kind of food is Buddy eating?

Thanks for checking. I did test for ketones and he's negative. He eats FF shrimp with tuna and Friskies Ocean Whitefish. Every once in a while I give him EVO dry. No I didn't get those syringes yet. Tomorrow I was gonna try 3.5

Thanks for reminding me what Buddy eats. I have been told that it is best to only feed your kitty fish once a week. The reason why is the amount of mercury that is in the fish which is too high to eat every day. Also, any chance you can get some mid-cycle tests (nadir)? That way you will know if the dose is safe and low (nadir is around the +5, +6 or +7). It would also help you know if you need to adjust or change your dose. With Prozinc, you need to know both AM & PM preshots as well as nadir in order to ensure the appropriate dose. At night, since we would rather be sleeping, if you could get a test before you go to bed. Again, that way you will ensure that Buddy will have safe numbers. Hopefully that all makes sense.
