Hello LL,

Every day I have to fight little bubbles in the syringe I'm using. Which is the best method to get rid of them?

Thanks.

Hi, I feel your pain.. others will drop through to offer suggestions, what finally worked for me was this: I draw up a little more insulin then I need.. turn the syringe upside down & tap tap tap the side with a ball point pen (I was trying with my fingernail but it was not enough) anyway.. then slowly squirt or twist the extra insulin you drew up to out so that you are giving an accurate dose..that ball point pen sure does the trick for Baby & I. Good Luck...

Thanks Nicole. I feel I've been doing everything the wrong way. Frustrating feeling when you just want the best for your cat.

Your welcome.. you are doing everything right.. you are treating your kitties Diabetes.. don't be hard on yourself.. bubbles happen & we all rely on each other for expertise, we all learn .. just at different times ;-) hang in there...

Oh yes bubbles! I too would get really frusterated with the bubbles at the beginning. I have found that pulling up more than I need works great, then I tap the syringe also. If I have an air bubble that I just can't seem to get out by tapping the syringe and rolling the plunger, then I just pull back on the plunger til it looks like all the insulin is together resting inside the syringe on the plunger end (inside) and then I try to gently push all the way back up to the top where the insulin touches by the needle end and usually this works. I also have excess insulin because I drew up extra in the syringe so that gives some leeway to work with on getting the bubbles out. Does that make any sense? I wish I could just show you!

Hi Natalia, Here is my tip for avoiding bubbles in the syringe. Many here have found that it works:

1. work the plunger back and forth a few times to loosen it up.
2. push the plunger all the way in FORCEFULLY and hold it there.
3. still holding the plunger all the way in, insert it into the insulin cartridge, ease up on the plunger, and SLOWLY draw out more insulin than you need.
4. with the tip of the needle over a paper towel, slowly TWIST the end of the plunger until you reach your correct dose. (Twisting is easier and more accurate than pushing).
5. give the shot.

The key here is step #2, forcefully holding the plunger all the way in. This expels any air that might be hiding in the syringe.

I use the Monoject syringes, which have a nice, flat plunger and good lines.

Hope this helps,
