Hi Everyone,

Tomorrow Bubba is going to the vet at 7am (est) for his ultrasound. To give a quick update, Bubba is eating ( not as he was) but eating
The last few days, he has been sitting in this strange position where he is propping his back legs up behind him as if he is getting ready to start a race ( photo included). To me, this indicates pain of some kind

What I have been noticing is this-

He acts so much better before his food and insulin - I mean pretty chipper
After food and insulin, within a hour or so- He starts to look dazed, in pain and sleepy.
He then struggles to find a comfortable position to lay.

Poop is now solid
Drinking ok

I am not a vet, and have no clue what to make of all this. I am hoping tomorrow we will find fixable answers!
If you have a moment tonight or tomorrow could you please send Bubba some healing vibes and keep him in your thoughts

One of the photos enclosed are to show you what a clown he normally is! When you leave your pocketbook out he would climb in it to find some goodies- The best is if my credit card was loose in my bag he would take it out and carry it in his mouth like a dog!
Now, if he steals them he should pay them no?
My furry friend thinks he is a dog I swear!

I wont be able to post right away tomorrow as they will NOT let me out of work. I am sure I will be such a productive employee tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!! NOT

Re: Bubba's Ultrasound tomorrow at 7am est

Lots and lots of good u/s vines for Bubba tomorrow. We will be thinking good thoughts and hoping that whatever is bothering him can be determined. It does sound as if he is in some sort of gastro-intestinal distress after eating. I hope that someone with experience in such things will comment this evening.

Please give an update tomorrow. Try to have a restful evening,

Ella & Rusty

Thank you both so much. We truly appreciate all the well wishes!

Hi guys .. sending good vetty thoughts bubba's way .. I looked at the first picture and oddly enough, mocha lays like that quite often! But once she get's real relaxed in that position, her legs kinda "slide" right out from under her aiming straight back .. we figure she must be feelin' the breeze between the knee's

Re: Bubba's Ultrasound today

I'm so happy to say that Bubbas ultrasound was perfect! Organs looked good. No cancer, tumors or thickened walls.
They also did some Xrays on him and they are telling me

Bubba is having back pain!
He has a defect in his back. He should have 7 lower back lumbar and he only has 6
He also said his back was inflamed between his vertebraes.
Dr said this could create discomfort ( crazy sitting position.) for him which could lead to loss of appetite
Plan for now is to keep him on prednisolne that may need to be increased
The Dr said the full report would be ready in the morning And after reading it I will let you guys know.
He said that Bubba had a short spine, and his weight is also a factor ;(
Will ask tomorrow if we are also giving pain meds or at least have them on hand.
Also the back as well as diabetes could be leading to leg weakness.

Going to lay down, thank you all for the good vines today.
Update again once report is in hand!
Thank you guys so much!

Re: Bubba's Ultrasound tomorrow at 7am est

Great news on the first part of the results!

If the vet prescribes a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), please discuss this with him at length. These drugs are no longer considered to be a good choice for long term use. In fact, one of these drugs, Metacam (meloxicam) has an FDA black box warning due to it's causing acute renal failure. The drugs are very hard on the kidneys which is the last thing you want in a diabetic cat.

From your notes, it looks like Bubba really needs a pain med.

Also, I think he needs a dose increase.

Thanks Sienna! I will talk with him again tomorrow.
Bubba is currently taking prednisolne for his asthma and I'm in no way happy about any sort of increase there. Perhaps if these are episodes that will happen we could just do the same amount of pred and add in the pain meds.yes, Bubba will be going back to his previous dose, it was decreased due to his lack of eating.
Thank you for always helping and sharing your knowledge with me. It's so helpful and I'm always all ears.

Great news that the U/S was clean! Poor Bubba with the back pain, though...but now you have an answer. I agree with Sienne...it does sounds like he may need some pain meds. Maybe contact Barb and Checkers...Checkers also has back issues and she may be able to offer some insight.

I hope you got some good rest in!

I'm glad you have an answer now and can proceed with a plan! Definitely get some pain meds. If you can get Bubba to lose some weight (if he's overweight) that should help as well.

I am so glad Bubba's U/S was normal , but sorry on the spinal problem... Hope you can find the right meds to make Bubba feel better--Now you can relax some, and focus on getting him better!
Have a good night--Hugs & Love from us!

Thanks for the replies. Bubba had a long day and is happily sleeping .
I had a little nap and feel better. Yes, our little chubby friend needs to mm slim down a bit.
At least we have some direction and I can start to focus on his numbers again. ;)
I will look into the pain meds, for sure.

Jackie, I'm glad Bubba's u/s was good. I'm really sorry about his spinal problem.
Checkers has a degenerative disk. I have the cd showing it, but don't know how to post the link. Well I'm sure I could if anyone was interested.
That doesn't sound like Bubba's problem, but pain is pain, and needs to be addressed.
Checkers gets bupe, when I can see his body language change and he has trouble sitting. It takes less than an hour for the med to kick in. Checks sleeps for a while, then wakes up, thinking he's a kitten.

Jackie, I really hope you talk to your vet about getting pain meds for Bubba, as it seems he's showing you he hurts. JMHO

I do wonder about what Ella said. Why does he act pained after he eats? I was thinking tummyache too. Possibility??

Hi again and we, too, are glad to hear the outcome of Bubba's U/S. I hope that the pain meds will help him. Since he has had this condition all of his life, you and your vet should be able to come up with something that will work for him.

Have a good evening,

Ella & Rusty
