Good Morning L, B, & L ~

Poor Bubba! Both ears are so red and sore( the whole ear) that he hisses and swats at me when testing. I don't know how they both got so sore. And each time I test it seems I am in the vein with lots of bleeding no matter how close to the edge I get . UGH!

Any suggestions? I have tried Neosporin with pain relief, traumeel and today I put a bit of aloe vera gel on them. Is this something a vet should see? I am afraid they will tell me to stop testing......... Any one testing the pad paw with any luck?

Vines to all Beans and Kitties in need.

I used to test all the time in paws, I wipe it with alcohol let dry and poke wipe again, I did if for about 7 months, I also used the big pad and switched from 1 paw to another, I used the pen with lancet cause it has to go through the pad, it’s thicker than ear, I would do that and let his ears rest, do u have any coconut oil maybe put on his ears help with redness and help heal

When you test the paws, what position did you have Bella in ? Did you notice the numbers were different from ear to paw?

love light and healing:bighug: Have you tried Cloud Nine Healing Sauve? Chewy.com carries it
Paula, would you use this salve instead of the tube of antiseptic ointment on a regular basis? Or save it just for when there is a special need?

Poor Bubba...so sorry @Bobbie And Bubba to hear about the sore/red ears. I have a good friend who just recently experienced a sudden hematoma in her cats ear...came out of nowhere! She had to go on antibiotics for a while - seems to be getting better - but the ear will be deformed. Vet did not suggest lancing for fear of infection / or steroids for fear of 'pushing her to diabetes' - thank goodness - it sounded like her vet was at least informed of the dangers of those remedies...sorry I'm getting off topic here...

coconut oil maybe put on his ears

Coconut oil sounds like an Excellent idea! I've read here that some people have had a problem using Neosporin with pain relief.I was using it & Ravan got hard bumps on the edge of his ear. I can't get blood from that ear now.
Lately he's been fighting with me about poking his ear. I think it's hurting? I did try using his foot pad & he freaked out. No way would it work for me. I guess some Kitties are more accepting of that.

I'm going to try the coconut oil like Jamie suggested! Maybe warm it up a bit too. :)

This is what I use most of the time.

I put it on after the last test of the morning/night so it is on for the most time.
Bobbie, if you use HALO Pets Derma Dream Natural Healing Salve, you shouldn't need an oral antibiotic. I've used it on pets for years. It'll clear up the existing redness on Bubba's ears. A tiny bit goes a long way!

It has all natural ingredients:
vegetable oils [almond, castor, coconut, avocado]
beeswax
squalene
carnuba wax
vitamin A
vitamin E
calendula
aloe vera gel concentrate.
comfrey
tea tree oil
myrrh gum oil
Lavender Oil

In addition to Amazon, there's a store locator on the Halo site: https://halopets.com/. It's sold both locally and online.

Thanks Jill. I will see if I can find some locally.

I can't get the Halo salve
@Bobbie And Bubba ... where did you find it? Amazon out of, not available locally. Nelli has same :(. Previous remedies I’ve used no longer work. Both ears have bumps along rim seeming to be broken capillaries :(. Cannot (even) draw blood from one, the other becoming more and more difficult- @Jill & Alex (GA) my experience has been when I put any ointment type, oil type healing treatment on Nelli ear, I have to completely wipe clean before I can test again... did you have this issue too or ECID o_O?
If so do you have any advice for me? Need to heal, need to test

I can't find it in any of the Pet stores around me.......I ordered some from Amazon and it won't be here for a while.........I did try testing the paw pad, he let me but I couldn't get enough blood and did it again, and he got annoyed with me and took off. I will try the paw pad again.

Krystina, I just ordered some from Chewy's and it will arrive by Wednesday. That sure beats Dec. 5th. Here's what I am doing in the interim, I am alternating aloe vera gel ( the kind you would put on sunburns) and calendula gel. Both of those are in the salve. Better than nothing...........hope that helps.

Neosporin is not recommended for use on kitties due to Zink content.

I think a Vet visit and an antibiotic shot would be in order. Also, I really squeeze Tiny's ear after poking to compress any bumpiness (although maybe it would work for grumpiness to!)&. It's working. She doesn't like it, but I distract her with chin scritches as I squeeze her ear.

You probably do/know this already, but thought my 2 cents might help.

Feel better, Bubba's ears! ❤

@Joanne&TinySole and @Ana & Frosty (GA) , I did just start calendula gel today at mid day which has anti microbial properties as well as anti inflammatory properties. I am so hoping this helps as he just got over 4 days of diarrhea and an AB will not be good for that. I want to give it another 24 hours and see if it improves.

I do appreciate you input. Everyone's input. Right now, I am going with my gut. ( after Thanksgiving, I have a BIG gut)

Oh poor Bubba! Do you think it was from testing or from something else?
My civvie Harry got a very red and painful looking ear about a year ago, totally out of the blue. We could never find the cause and tried all sorts of things to heal it........went to the vet who took scrapings etc. Finally he had to have oral A/B which healed it quickly.
I hope you can get it healed soon............it's very tricky for you with needing to test as well.

I know :) I just feel like I HAVE to say it, otherwise if something happens and I don't, I will feel guilty. I know everyone here has a lot of experience with cats (although I do too despite my age) and many use alternative remedies that may help, but you know. Just want to be sure to throw out what I have to offer. ;):bighug: Let us know how he's doing!

Another thing you could get locally (today) would be Bag Balm
I just wanted to second the bag balm - we use that at the shelter where I volunteer for lots of different things and it works great. We currently put it on a dog with happy tail, we recently had a mama dog whose nipples were very sore from nursing, or on paws when it's icy outside.

I think it's from testing because I alternate the ears. He is on Revolution so that targets ear mites so we can rule that out. Sending Reiki to his ears, applying topically aloe vera gel, and calendula gel.......giving it 24 more hours.

too often are a thoughtless go-to fix
I don’t think it’s thoughtless when you’ve thought about and considered the worst case scenario. Or if you’ve seen patients (humans) severely ill due to what started out as a small and easily treated infection. If you said “my cat doesn’t look right” and I suggested abx without asking more questions then I suppose you could say it’s thoughtless. The problem with holistic treatments is there’s no evidence that it’s effective other than hear-say, and I personally never found it helpful and don’t believe in it. I HAVE, however, found antibiotics helpful when there’s an infection.

@Ana & Frosty (GA) Ok. You are allowed to feel how you feel.
