Boy 5/11 AMPS 245; PMPS 263......Time to Revamp dose?

Now that Boy has been on 0.25u for awhile, his AM/PM PS levels are fairly consistent in the 200's with +6 in the low 100's,. I was really loving the Blue/Green days (even if there were only 2, lol) that he was at after dropping from 0.5 to 0.25. Just thinking that maybe 0.25 is still slightly low for him and going to maybe even a .3 (since .5 was too high) might give me better BG's without dropping too fast. He also seemed to have some better AM and PM PS 's with the fat .25u than with the reg .25 or skinny.

Is that a reasonable idea worth trying? I haven't given Boy his PM shot, but will go ahead and feed him since he would be getting insulin now anyway.

He has nice regulated numbers. You could try a little more to see if the numbers could come down a little. I wonder about a fat .2? I am afraid .4 might bring him down too much but if you can monitor, you could try it.

He's had a couple of the fat .2, but no major changes. Sorry about the .4....a typo...I actually meant .3, I didn't want to go up too much, especially since the .5, and probably a .4 were dropping his BG's down too low. Then just see how that works for a few cycles. Of course I would love to figure out why the 0.25 was really working pretty well, then bam.....his numbers start rising again. Or was the drop from .5 to .25 really the cause of getting the blue/green days? If his PS BG's weren't continuing to go up higher in the 200's, I would assume that he was on a good dose and stick with it.....but he seems to be moving the other way.

His eating has been a little "iffy" lately too. he "seems" to be really hungry as PS, but isn't eating the whole amount, but does go back later to eat more. I've been trying the enticements with his food, but even that isn't getting better eating. I'm not sure how much of his picky eating is associated with the BG's rising.....I would expect his numbers to be dropping too low.

I was able to buy a variety of the "approved" LC cans, a couple of the premiums, and some crushed freeze dried chicken to top his food with to see if that helps. He absolutely loves those freeze dried chicken pieces as his treat for testing (Thanks so much for the suggestion), and has already gone through most of the jar.

Does he act like he's not eating because he doesn't feel well, or like he's just not hungry?

Diabetic cats eat like pigs, like they are starving, when they aren't at all regulated. He might just not be eating as much because he doesn't feel like he needs to with all the lowered numbers.

I think an increase looks logical. .3 for sure. And don't exclude .4 or .5 just because they took him too low before. What worked yesterday might not work tomorrow, but what failed yesterday might work tomorrow. Occasionally this dance is two steps forward, one step back....the Insulin Waltz, I think it is called. I think maybe Strauss composed it.... ;-)

No, he seems as though the "flavor" just isn't appealing to him. He doesn't have that "gotta eat now" attitiude. The other two cats are pretty much doing the same thing. When their feeding ritual begins (3 separate bowls of food in 3 different areas), they all will eat at their own spot. When they have eaten about 1/4 - 2/3rds, they do some weird circle/switch places thing. That drove me crazy, so pretty much, all 3 will get the same brand/flavor. They still switch. I'm wondering if they are saving some of their for later....the 24° dry food is no longer sitting out. Boy, and the other two, will eat a couple of more times throughout the day/night. ......unless they really hated it. Now if Boy were allowed to have just the freeze dried chicken as a meal, he wouldn't leave anything. I hadn't thought about him reducing the amount he eats because of his glucose going down. Why the other 2 do the same thing, no clue. Funny, if one cat hates what is in the bowl.....they all do.

I did go ahead and give him .3u....and he may (should) have some lower numbers, but not extreme. If I had gone with .5, I would have expected a big drop somewhere.

A Waltz it definitely is!! Can't remember if it was Strauss or not, but sounds right. I began thinking that Boy was almost at a stall.....and something had to change to get the numbers moving again. At least he seems to be really feeling a whole lot better...and at times thinks he's a little kitten racing through the house, lol. Boy is a "talker" most days....lately,.,.,.doesn't shut up. I do want to check his weight again though. He has definitely gained weight, but I hadn't been positive if he was gaining consistently....and I would think that could impact his BG levels going up.

Such a mystery kitties are!!

You could always add a small "dressing" of the chicken on his wet, when you want/need him to eat.

Glad you meant .3 - didn't want to be discouraging but I was a little nervous about the jump up. You might get there, but hopefully gradually.
