Starting a new thread for this bouncy kitty. Didn't like how low she got at +4 last night. I go to bed at 8pm when I open at work but I had a feeling so I asked my bf to check her at +4 & +6. He gave high carb food because it scared him. I'm thinking one more month (6 month mark) and we will really consider Lantus. Ive seen such good results with people switching their kitties. :) I feel she has made so much progress but we still aren't there. I don't know if Vetsulin will get her to where she needs to be.

What do we think about changing her dose to 2.0 skinny on anything under 400 and anything above 400 2.0. Hope we won't have too many more of those darn reds.

You do indeed have a bouncy kitty but that unfortunately is one of the problems folks encounter with Vetsulin because it goes into action quickly and drops the BG more rapidly than some longer lasting insulins. It's those sudden drops that are causing the bounces and giving you those red pre-shots. It seems Angel is often going lower at night than she does during the day which is not unusual either. How about trying 2u for anything above 300 and 1.75u for anything below 300 and see if that levels her out a bit?

I switched Chuck to Lantus after 7 months on ProZinc. He was really bouncy too. He still bounces but no where near what he did on ProZinc. Recently we have seen a huge improvement in his BG levels.
I'm very happy with the switch.

I really like lantus. From what I hear levemir is great too. I had so much not anxiety about his numbers before the switch because of the quick drop and how it didn't last very long. I have no idea if this is true but I was thinking the other day and decided 16 units of prozinc would probably hypo Chuck!
I'm over the moon with his recent numbers and control. Even with the cable company in the house (yesterday and today) he's surfing along.
I watched Kris switch Teasel over and that gave me the guts to switch. I knew I had someone who really understood the bouncy rollercoaster using lantus!
Keep an eye on the supply closet. Sometimes you can get a pretty good deal on lantus or levemir. It might help get you started on it when you switch. It can give you more time to save up to purchase from Mark's in Canada if you decide to do it that way.

Thank you! I've seen posts in the supply closet selling Lantus pens for $30. How long would those last ? And they can be shipped without staying refrigerated ?

One pen has 300 units in it. So just divide 300 by how many units a day you are giving your cat and that should give you how many days. I got mine sent in a box with bubble wrap and a cooling pack. They arrived just fine. I asked her to send them after the holiday (4th of July) so it didn't get stuck sitting for a whole day. I would request shipping on Monday to make sure it doesn't sit on the weekend.
There are some regulars that sell in there so they probably have the shipping system figured out.

Alan knows how to ship them and I think he mentioned he does not use ice packs unless you really want one. If you don't order from him, because I think someone else was selling on his thread above your post to him  make sure they know not to put the ice pack directly on the pen. Like Steph's, wrap the box or pen in bubble wrap or padded envelope, then ice pack can be outside of that, so there's no chance for the insulin to freeze. Don't forget to try that card though ;)

Yong how would that actually work hahaha I'm so confused by it. I saved the card on my phone. And I'm tempted to get a paper RX and try but how would the pharmisist not see it's coming from a vet lol

Do they send actual cards in the mail or can I just use the saved version on my phone? It's good for the Vial or pens ? Ahhhh I wanna try but I'm so anxious thinking about it lol

Unfortunately, I learned about the card AFTER I had ordered from Mark's in Canada . So many things I've found out about after the fact or responded to late in Supply closet for . I imagine it's like a people Rx card. Carla printed one off but they still mailed one. I think Angela is doing the phone way. @Taffysmama Hey Julie, could you tell Cherish what you said when you handed pharmacy a prescription written by the Vet? Thanks in advance :)

I think it covers 1 pen each month, which should be plenty for Angel's dose :). I'd be anxious too but if it's free insulin for our babies, I'll try it! $30 can buy another pack of test strips :woot:

I'm so interested in learning more!

Hi! I was honest that this was for my cat. (I answered in other thread, too.) As long as I have the card, they don't seem to question and the pharmacists that have assisted me are very helpful. Even before I had this card, they would search in their computer for available discounts. (Although the cheapest I paid was $80). I sure hope I can continue to use my discount card to get $0 Lantus pens! Even when it was at $10, that was awesome! But, I also want to share info and help others save, too.

Hi, I got my pen yesterday and it says there's only 100 units in it. That doesn't seem like very much and would only last less than a month. Confused.
