I just transitioned him from FF Classic to Nature's Variety Raw Medallions (Chicken) this week. Yesterday he had 3 medallions and today he will be up to the recommended 4 (his weight=just under 13lbs)
He absolutely loves this stuff. The rationale for putting him on it was:
a) he lost some weight over the past 6 months due to p-titis and some high BGs due to him having been on prednisolone, and this food has 2x the calories of FF - so good for weight gain.
b) he loves it, and was usually at times picky with canned food, always showing more interest in raw or cooked chicken.
c) he was on pred, low dose, for almost 2 yrs because of p-titis and suspected IBD (due to chronic, intermittent long-term vomiting). However this past Dec an ultrasound apparently ruled out IBD (maybe the pred masked it?). But now that its been 2 months since he's been off the prednisolone, this past week I've seen him vomit 2x, days apart.
I am thinking the raw might agree with him better, and it has apparently a pretty good track record for IBD/IBD-ish cats. And I am buying more and more into these theories of rancid fish oils in commercial canned foods causing troubles.
But am seeing some food spikes now. Today he hit 252 when he should have been hitting nadir, and the food is likely the only cause.
*according to the manufacturer, this food is 2% carbs, but with all the fruits and veg in it, could this be true?
have any of you encountered issues around post-prandial spikes? (esp if you are feeding something with a slightly higher carb content b/c they do better on that particular food)
