Bounce?

Was wondering if someone could look at my spreadsheet and let me know if they think the numbers I am getting are high because the insulin will probably need to be upped or if this is what a bounce looks like after upping insulin. Thanks. Don't really know what to look for.

I'm not an expert but I would say this is a bounce probably after the 209 of yesterday morning. It's the 1st time he's in yellow and it's a big drop from the night before where he was at 435.
I would not increase right now but wait for the bounce to clear! We'll see what others say!

I agree. The bounce can take 4-6 cycles to clear. Nice to see the yellow. That’s progress. Also with TR you dint increase sooner than every 6 cycles which is 3 days. This is only cycle 5.

Ditto from me.

Just a reminder, especially if you're following TR, it's important to get at least one test, in addition to your pre-shot tests, each cycle. My hunch is that Buddy may have been lower than the 209 during the PM cycle on 9/27.

I was pretty much torturing him because I could not get any blood from his ear and would take several tries. I tried the heating the rice thing and putting it on his ear for a few seconds before and it has made a HUGE difference. I honestly wanted to just be able to give him a break during the night because he was becoming terrified and not coming out from under the bed. I think he may be getting better about since I am now able to do it in 1-2 attempts. So I will be trying to get at least one night test at different times.

It takes time for them to get used to the routine. I had a rough time getting Luci into the groove of all this testing...now she gets up on the counter where we have laid out a towel for her. She waits and purrs...

I was advised to do 'practice' runs with Luci and it made such a difference. We'd go to the testing towel multiple times a day, she got pets and love and a treat for showing up and letting me handle her - prior to that she wasn't one to be held - much less held and poked! So we'd go to the test place, pick her up, put her on the towel, pet her up, give her a treat and let her go...she was highly insulted but she liked those treats!

After a while it got easier as it became, in her mind, acceptable for us to hold her and pet her there...

If anyone had told me at the time that I'd be doing this four years later I wouldn't have believed them, much less with such a cooperative cat.

Trust me...it works...you've just got to help them learn that it's their idea to get attention and a treat for showing up :)

I give Ruby a full body massage with the warmed rice sock. I rub it all over her head and along her sides and she likes the feeling of it. I also hold the rice sock on her ear for a good 10-20 seconds, sometimes more if her ear is cold like it has been for the past few days because it's cooler out. Once you do it enough, the capillaries in the cat's ear "learns to bleed," so it does get easier. I use a lancing device like this one and it made a world of a difference in getting the job done quickly and without as much :banghead::blackeye::(:confused::facepalm::eek:o_O:stop:

He does seem to be getting better at getting his ear pricked. I will try doing the towel thing or like having a designated spot check location. Now I notice I get his ear to bleed a little too much sometimes. So I was wondering, should I be upping Buddy's insulin tomorrow or do I need to do a full curve while he is still on the 1.5 units? The vet wanted me to change from 1 units to 2 units but I did the 1.5, so I didn't miss out a dosage that may be good for him.

I'd increase - but it looks like you're missing mid-cycle tests. If you increase tomorrow to 1.75 please try to get a mid-cycle test; once in the daytime, once at night, just to make sure he's not getting some great number in the middle of the cycle. If there's any impact, that's when you'll see it. If you don't see any improvement in three days you can go up another .25 increment - until you start to see better numbers.
