I am needing some help here to fully understand the bounce...
Couple of questions:
how low does the bg need to get to consider the higher numbers a bounce?
I have been working with Sara and Louie and his numbers are not consistant, curve is not good most of the time - wondering if she should lower to .75 and see if the curve is more slow.
Hope I am asking the right questions???? ohmygod_smile
At a loss!

Unfortunately the answer to your questions is ECID. Sometimes it's not even how low the BG goes, but how quickly it drops. Is the cat still on NPH? A faster acting insulin like that is going to have a higher incidence of bounce than longer acting insulins, most likely, especially because the insulin drops BG faster.

Any way you can encourage them to change insulins?

I agree with Vicky - ECID. If I tried to explain it using KT as an example, it would fail miserably. He bounces at different numbers and up TO different numbers. There's no rhyme or reason to them that I've found. They WILL get shorter in duration. After 5 months, KT's are finally only lasting about 24 hours.

She is now using PZI BCP on 10/20 and going to switch to PROZINC soon

Oh, that's better. I don't think dropping the dose is the answer then. Although there was a green a while back, the overall curve is still high. Shots are not being given very regularly so that very well could be an issue.

Why the change from PZI to Prozinc? Easier to obtain??

What about using U100 syringes? That allows for finer dose changes. Also, are heart pills given in Pill Pockets? I don't like those - look at the ingredients.

So just from what's on spreadsheet, shots need to be given more regularly on 12/12 and food also needs given on a regular schedule with PZI. That means you feed after BG preshot and then again by +5. They eat what's available and don't have anymore food after +6, that's because PZI peaks earlier than the L's, so if they eat after the insulin effect is wearing off/BG going up, the food is going to make it go up even more. Does that make sense? When I used PZI I had a timed feeder and set it to go off about +5.

The day the 73 happened could very well have been an overlap from shots being given only 9 hours apart the day before and then +10.5 the next day. It's not the same kind of overlap/shed which the L's have, but there can especially be an overlap if doses are too close together during a period of time. Shot time was changed earlier by 5.5 hours over 2 days, that's too quick.

Hope that helps. Keep us in the loop. Good for you for helping them.

PZI to Prozinc is my vets preference...and it's easier for me to get.

I tend to shoot between 930 and 10...there was a week that I had to go to work early monday, so I had to adjust the time over the weekend.

I am at work during the afternoon +6, so I cannot put food up...but I can put less food down before I go...
