I transitioned Toby to a wet food only diet yesterday and got some much better numbers post-shot. However, he was the highest he's been in weeks this morning. Is it possible that this is a bounce? He's normally in the 200s, but he was in the 100s for several hours yesterday. I've reduced his Vetsulin to 1 unit until I can tell how it will affect him when he only has access to wet food. Does this seem to be the correct dose?

Unfortunately, there are 3 instances this week where I will be working late and will not be home to administer his PM shot (it's usually only once a week). I feel bad about not having the kind of consistency he needs, but my work schedule is what it is. Will this increase his chances of bouncing?

Also, I had a question about the amount of food he should be eating. I think he needs a least 180 calories a day - he's currently 16 lbs (down from 19) and is a large-framed cat. Right now, he's only eating 2 cans of 3 oz. Fancy Feast pates a day - one throughout the day and one over night. He should be eating closer to 3 cans, correct?

Could be a bounce, but it's not a radically higher number than his usual PS numbers. It's actually encouraging to see some blues in there with the transition to wet food. Always good to be cautious when changing food and carb levels. Better to lower the dose and be safe, and if it's not enough, work it back up again once the change of food is complete. I like to play it safe, and if Lucy has been in low numbers and I have to be gone, I leave out plenty of food for her while I'm gone so she can regulate if needed.

Thank you! I'll be working a lot this week, but I should be able to check on him around +5. I'll make sure to leave plenty of wet food down. I'm concerned he's not eating the full 2 cans a day, but it's only day 2 of this transition. I just don't want him to drop too much weight too quickly.

Maybe I'm wrong, but 180 per day sounds low to me for a large cat. At an estimated 20 cal/lb, wouldn't he need 320 calories to stay at 16 lbs? Or is your goal weight for him 9 lbs?

I want to get Grandpa back up to at least 12 lbs, so I'm shooting for 240 calories/day.

I want to keep him between 14-16 pounds. He's just not eating much more than 2 cans of Fancy Feast a day at the moment. I have food out for him at all times other than the 2 hours before his shot. He eats, but I really don't think he's eating enough to maintain his weight and I'm concerned. I don't want to reintroduce the dry food, but I will if I have to.
