So, my vial of insulin fell out of the fridge and cracked. I was able to salvage some insulin for her shot tonight. Is it okay to use if it has been exposed to air? Should I skip tonight? I'll get a new bottle in the morning. I'm worried because she has the UTI, and I don't want to mess with her levels too much. What would y'all do? Thank you for your help!

If you are sure there is no glass in what you salvaged, the air won't hurt it in that short amount of time.
Otherwise, skipping once and monitoring her is OK, too.

Thank you for getting back to me! I found the piece of glass that broke off the bottom and it fits perfectly, but I'm just not 100% sure. Ugh! So frustrating! I'm thinking it might be better to skip. I don't want to hurt her.

I would think a skipped shot is less dangerous than the possibility of even a tiny sliver of glass in the insulin. But I'm not an expert either.

Thank you! Ya, I am thinking so too. I'm skipping it. I can get her insulin 8 hours after her shot is due. Hopefully she doesn't get too high! This has been some week! My poor kitty. I feel terrible for her.

You're not alone! This thread has some good ideas to prevent this in the future

Haha! It was the exact same thing that happened to me! It was my boyfriend. With out me knowing, he got up this morning and got her a new bottle. :) Thank you for sharing that thread. I will definitely be wrapping the bottle in bubble wrap from now on! It was the right choice in not giving her shot last night. She was only 242 this morning, 20 hours after her last shot, and acting totally normal. Phew!

Good call! Hope she's feeling okay today. Is the UTI causing any issues?
Hey Rachel, thank you! It was. She was a total mess on Tuesday. Peeing blood, going every couple of minutes. Then the pain got so bad, she started puking. I've never been so scared. They gave her that shot at the vet. I've been freaking out since. She is acting great now. Totally normal. I'm just very ready for the 14 day mark, so it is out of her system. Thank you for checking on her!

Glad to hear it! If she hasn't had a reaction to the convenia yet, I don't think she will. I'm not saying don't keep a vigilant eye on her, but I think you can stop freaking out! Elektra has had convenia before and never had any abnormal effects from it. Keep an eye on her of course, but I'd say you're probably out of the danger zone.

Thank you so much! It is nice to have some reassurance. I am definitely keeping my eye on her. I might be going slightly crazy. Never would I have thought that I would be keeping data on her bathroom trips. Ha! Thank you again, and have a great weekend!
