Ok - last nite @ 9pm was his first Lantus dose. We decided to go with 1 unit. Well.....

+11 = 40

ok .............sooooo I obviously am feeding him and I obviously don't give his dose at +12 BUT now what...........

wait till this evening and give only 0.5 units????

He's testing my knowledge of this insulin which is none! ugh! i feel so helpless and such a beginner all over! :?

lots of times we see cats give a really big response on the first shot of Lantus. They like to trick us into reducing the dose!

We don't usually feed at +11, but I like to "feed the 40's" so I would give a tsp or two of low carb and test in 30 minutes.

Then test again at +12 to see where he is. I think we'll have to reduce his dose a little, even though we will most likely have to increase again eventually. This is not an abnormal response to the first dose of Lantus.

Lantus seems to have thrown you a curve! Well, either Lantus or Boris did. I really hope this means he's going to like Lantus, a lot!
