Bootsie's weight gain

Yesterday was a vet check day. Three hours after breakfast and med, his glucose was 141. His serum ketones were 0.2. All fine--except for the first time he had gained weight-almost a pound in 3 months. I am doing everything the same-though the vet seemed skeptical. Anyone else had this happen? Should I decrease his food -- and by how much? He is 15 lbs and eats 275-300 calories a day. Goal weight 13 pounds. Thanks for any advice.

I've heard 20 calories per pound for an indoor cat to maintain weight; I try to put out three servings of 180 calories per day for my three cats, with a goal of 9lb each. Electra went down to 9.5 after beginning Senvelgo, but at her dental this month she was up to 10.4 again. Still better than the 11.3 she was last year, but I've been wondering if I need to keep better watch over what she eats also. They don't even eat all the food that is put out for them (I throw out any wet food that isn't eaten after 12 hr) so getting less calories, but still manage to gain. How many calories do bugs have? (j/k)

That's helpful-20 cal per pound-i will add up my cats weight and do the same. I too throw out food and it is so expensive to do that but I find it to be true-- only time it didn't throw out food was when his glucose was high and then could not feed enough to satisfy him. Im going to venture a guess bugs are pure protein and call them a "free" food lol!

That’s about what I feed Pookey. He’s 16 lbs and I think we’re in the 250 - 260 calorie range.

There is a calculator, not a perfect science, but it takes into account the body condition score and target weight.

Thank You! Looks like I may be overfeeding a little-- though Bootsie does not think so. I will try the calculator. He was originally about 19 lbs so looks thin to me- but doctor threw a fit that he gained.
