Re: Boomer at 85 +14 now at 74 +14.5

I'll be testing a couple more times before bed.
Yes I can shoot tomorrow; just not as much. He seems to be reacting more than we expect him to.
If I'm awake during the night I will test and post the numbers.
And I'll test as soon as I wake up tomorrow so I'll try to get two tests in before food/shot.

This morning when I shot 2.5 it was a light 2.5 so somewhere in between 2.25 and 2.5. I would like to see it go down to 2 units at the most (would be happier with less than 2 lol) but of course it depends on what happens tonight and where he's at tomorrow morning. And I will defer to your expertise because I don't want to back off so much that we lose the ground we've gained with him.
I really don't want another day like today.

Re: Boomer at 85 +14, 74 +14.5, 77 at 15.5

Appears to be staying steady now.
I will test again in 30 minutes before he eats and hopefully he has a full meal at that time since he hasn't had anything for 3.5 to 4 hours.

Re: Boomer at 85 +14, 74 +14.5, 77 at 15.5

Couldn't access his spreadsheet on my ipad so when I answered you last time I didn't know what levels were in the "green".
I definitely would not be comfortable shooting anything if he were in the green. nailbite_smile

Re: Boomer at 85 +14, 74 +14.5, 77 at 15.5

ok, thanks for sharing your thoughts. it's always good to know because people do usually have an idea of what they are comfortable with.

i'm off to quilting but either me or someone else will stop by tonight still with some thoughts on morning.

Re: Boomer at 85 +14, 74 +14.5, 77 at 15.5 up to 86 at +16

Have a good time1

Boomer is up to 86 at +16 and he just ate a full meal of 3/4 can of low carb fancy feast. Normally I would have one meal set up for overnight for another +4 hours but instead I set up two smaller ones.

Thanks for all your help today! And I look forward to seeing what everyone recommends for my Baby Boomer! :)

Well now he's up to 365 at +19. And I did the test twice to make sure.
Is this because of all the carbs yesterday trying to keep him safe?
He had low carb ff at + 16 and I had set up a low carb snack for him which was open when I got up at +19 to test him and he hadn't touched it. Going to put out some fresh stuff for him now.

Hi Judy

Sometimes kitties can have a delayed reaction to the carbs and numbers will rise but this looks like a bounce to me.

You had quite the day and we had some discussions on what would be a good dose for tomorrow. There was general agreement, at Dyanas suggestion, that if he is still bouncing tomorrow around 250 or higher, to shoot 2u. If he comes down in the 100-250 range, Julie suggested shooting 1.5u since you have to work tomorrow and can't have another day like today.

If he's green at PS, you'll have to decide whether to shoot less, like 1u, or skip. It depends on whether your husband wants to test tomorrow if he comes back down.

Keep in mind that a higher dose (e.g. the 2.5u) can affect up to six subsequent cycles but skipping tonight likely really helped to drain the depot.

Hi Judy!

the thing about bouncing is that a cat can bounce from any range they aren't used to - and even though Boomer's had lots of numbers in the green range (under 100), those 20's are serious business, and probably set up this bounce.

Skipping the dose tonight also meant not having insulin coming on board, contributing to the high numbers.

The good news is that he'll come back down from the bounce - no way to know how quickly that will happen, but bounces typically resolve within 6 cycles after the low numbers.

Hopefully this will mean you and DH will get a break from the incessant testing tomorrow.

Hi Judy:

You've had a very eventful, stressful day and I just wanted to say hi and tell you what a wonderful team you and your husband made and what a great job you did. Your kitty seems to be on a mission to get done with FD as fast as possible. As you saw today, you are in the right place to help him do so. There are so many smart, compassionate, and just plain nice people here and there is always someone around to help if you need it. I'll be watching to see how Boomer progresses, and I wish you luck as you navigate this journey with him. Welcome to LL!
