Hello all...

It's been a while since we have been on this board and after an hour of trying to figure out how to log back in, we are here. I cannot afford the 5 pack that's over 200 bucks that all the local pharmacies will only sell here so I was told by DCIN to get back on this board and see if someone can help us. We do daily testing still of course (relion meter from walmart) and she is on 1 and a half units now of Lantus. We also check for ketones which are still negative. She has been diagnosed since January of 2011 approximately. We have a little Lantus left but will be running out shortly. I sure hope someone can find it in their heart to help us out. Thanx in advance.

Oh boy .. I sure hope someone can help you out .. Have you checked at the pharmacy at the local hospital? I think some people on here have mentioned they can get a single pen there, or from costco or sam's club (large warehouse stores) ..

Hi Stephanie & BooBoo,

Have you considered ordering online from Canada. I order from Canada Drugs Online (a reputable pharmacy: you have to be careful about "rogue" pharmacies). Their price for the 5-pack of Lantus Solostar pens is $128 (US dollars, plus $10. shipping). Here's a link to the website. After you register and place your order you will need to send them your vet's prescription, which the vet can fax from his office.

Good luck!

Maybe it's time to see if someone would want to adopt BooBoo... Seems I just can barely afford to keep doing this for her.

I tried to enter in on my SS her new number for today and now that I have a mac (old pc broke), I don't know how to do it! It won't let me input into the fields, so when I have time to figure that out I will update it. I have a doctor's apply for a bad knee today so I will have to work on it when I get back home after that and errands I have to run...

:YMHUG: :YMHUG: I think there are a couple of members in your area. Are you asking to buy a single pen or for a donation?

On the SS, you have to be logged in to Google to enter info on the SS. That is different than being logged onto FDMB. I'm on a Mac and have no problem.

I would like to get a donation if possible. Summer months are hard because I do not get any student loans at this time, so basically we have to make do with just my hubby's income. I can donate some cash though, last time I was able to donate $20 and the nice lady sent me 3 whole pens! Guess I got lucky! Please let me know what I should do... Thanx!

okay, I figured out the SS and saved it to my desktop for easy access... Yay! Something is starting to go right today... cat(2)_steam

Nevermind, the saving to the desktop didn't work, argh! Well anyway, I was able to update it to reflect todays amps...

You need to work on the SS online. If you save it to your desktop and work on it there, then if you upload it, it will be another new document w/ a different URL. Have you made sure that you are logged in to Google? If you haven't accessed in a while they will log you off. look in the upper right corner of the SS. You should see your name if you are logged on or a "Log On" button if you aren't.

If you want to work on it on you desktop, you can copy the rows and paste them into the SS, but you may need to hand color the cells or reset the auto-color formatting for that range of cells

sorry to hear you're having trouble getting more lantus.

quite a few of our caregivers here in the group are in the same boat. they just don't have enough disposable funds available to purchase a vial or box of pens all at once. the best solution they've come up with is to purchase a single pen from local pharmacies or even a university hospital pharmacy. call around. you have to ask. some pharmacies will break up a box of pens. others won't. with any luck, you'll find one as others have.

someone suggested looking on craigslist. many caregivers have purchased lantus off of craigslist. a couple of weeks ago i saw unopened boxes of 5 lantus solostar pens going for $80 where i live. it's worth taking a look...

We purchased insulin off of craigslist for mocha .. it was leftover/extra insulin the lady was not going to use. She was only asking $20.00 a box .. We had to drive a good bit to get it, but it still saved us a ton of money. We felt safe doing it, but of course you would have to feel comfortable with it yourself.

I've also purchased from someone on Craigslist who didn't need the insulin anymore. He was selling 5 boxes (I think) at the time, and I picked up 3 for $25.00/box. It's certainly worth a look to see, and I sent the information to you in private message, along with the links that I came across. Hope that helps. :)

I wonder if some of the people who are looking for a solution could combine forces, buy a box and split them via mail? sorry, but I don't have any other suggestions.

This is a very long time later; I was searching Lantus and Craigslist and found this. Do you still need the insulin for Boo Boo? Please let me know.

I received a snide PM about his post from one of the less pleasant members of FDMB. (People like that are one reason I've stayed away from the Board - fortunately there aren't many of them.) No condolences (of course) and she referred primarily to the age of the original post. All I can say to that is that Stephanie may not have gotten rich in the interim, and hopeully her kitty still is still living and may need insulin. If not, someone else may be able to use two pens, both virtually full. Situations like this are not always "resolved" (as the PM says) if the kitty lives for years and the person does not win the lottery.

Shirley

Shirley, please accept my condolences on the passing of Ragnar. Ragnar was one lucky kitty to have you!

Passing on insulin is a beautiful and thoughtful gesture. You're right. Stephanie's situation may not be resolved. Who knows? I hope she sees your post if she still needs some Lantus for BooBoo Kitty. If not, there are others who may very much appreciate some help. I hope someone who needs insulin will take you up on your generous offer. You could always post the insulin in the Supply Closet if no one here steps up.

Sigh...
Nasty-grams or snide comments in PMs have no place on the FDMB. The moderators would like to take this opportunity to remind members to please report posts and/or PMs which are offensive for whatever reasons.
