Bogie's ear is still bandage after his surgery this past Friday, but his numbers are all over the place. His pre-shot just now is 215 and since I won't be home to feed or test him 10 hours, I have decided to not give him an injection now.
Sunday his
pre shot was 441 and I gave 1.5 U (he usually gets 2 but he was wearing the E-collar and not eating much) and +5 hrs, he was 558. His
evening pre shot was 453. I questioned whether that 558 might have been a rebound number since it has been my experience that Bogie peaks about +4 hrs. I ended up giving him 2 U in his evening injection and next morn his pre shot was 286. I have been trying NOT to test too much cause now I only have one ear to take blood from. My vet says to give 2 U as long as pre shot is over 250. Bogie is on Humulin N. I keep hoping that Bogie will go back to honeymooning once this ear thing is behind us. Not sure how long it will take or if it will happen at all. He is still eating only protein (human shrimp) and Young Again Zero carbs.

Happy New Year to all. Purrs, Barbara and Bogie

Since his ear infection cleared up, Bogie went right back to his honeymoon. Today is two weeks since he got insulin and his BG today was 144. I realize how little I understand diabetes. I guess the infection, repeated stress from vet visits and surgery and the Tresaderm all added up to crazy numbers in the 500's. Unfortunately Bogie has lost a lot of weight during everything AND YESTERDAY HE HAD HIS FINAL stitches taken out and I think the ear is filling with fluid again. Really going crazy.
