Hi All,
I was a member of this board back in 2010 . At that time we found out Bubba had diabetes.
Quick background-
Bubba is a 7 yr old male cat (Not to mention love of my life)
In 2010 we found out he was a diabetic who also suffers from asthma.
During the period of being regulated he got fatty liver from not eating (in hospital) and we almost lost him.
He was on insulin for about two months and we got his numbers under control with diet (Thanks to this board)
He is checked a few times a week with the Alphatrak and his numbers have been good.
We bought him flovent, but despite my best efforts he will not take it AT ALL!
The Dr's put him on 2.5 of Prednisilone daily (tried every other day) but to many attacks.
Please understand I realize flovent is the way, I love him to death and have brought him to the best hospitals in the state , but I just cant get him to take it
(even with the tricks) Breaks my heart. I am telling you this because I want you to know I tried for months.
Moving forward- Bubba is a BIG cat and Dr's say based on his size (paws etc) he should be no more then 17lbs. He is at 21!
Last week Bubba would not eat from his bowl, only via spoon. Kind of pushing it around yet working with him I got him to eat some. Just not like he would on his own. Took him to the vet, they treated him with Baytril ( he had a slight fever)
Also thought he could need a cleaning, due to the amount of tarter.
I asked that blood work be ran as I dont want to guess.
I was taken back with the results!
Albumin 4.7 (normal range 2.5-3.9)
Albumin/ Gloubin ratio- 1.6 (normal range 0.35-1.5)( dehydrated? from not eating well)
GGTP 11 (normal 1-10)
Magnesium 2.7 (Normal range 1.5-2.7)
Cholesterol 284 (normal 75 to 220)
Triglycerides- 2392!!! (normal range 25-160) This is freaking me out! (He is obese) Still way way to high)
Lymphocytes- 310 (normal range 1200-8000) Again not good! ( can be altered due to pred)
Glucose- 160 (normal range 64-170) Normally at home he is like 114-123
None of these results were done on a fast.
We are going back to the Dr this week, He is now eating again and acting normal but these numbers have me very nervous.
I did a lot of reading and I know for a fact, his diet needs to be adjusted ASAP. He is eating the classic Fancy Feast- Chicken, turkey
I need something that is low in fat yet low in carbs for (diabetes)
The Dr is doing more testing and feel it may be metabolic??????? all other numbers were fine.
Does anyone have any thoughts, I am beside myself, When we almost lost him I was frantic and well crazy with fear. Just thinking of all of this
has me nuts. Thank you for taking the time to read this very long post. I appreciate it very much
